Amends the Illinois State Auditing Act. Requires the Office of the Auditor General to operate a toll-free telephone hot line for the public to report allegations of fraud in the executive branch of State government. Authorizes the Office to conduct audits concerning alleged fraud and to refer allegations of fraud to the appropriate law enforcement authority or other governmental entity with jurisdiction over the alleged fraud. Effective immediately.

1 | | AN ACT concerning finance.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Illinois State Auditing Act is amended by |
5 | | adding Section 2-15 as follows: |
6 | | (30 ILCS 5/2-15 new) |
7 | | Sec. 2-15. Fraud hot line. The Office of the Auditor |
8 | | General shall operate a toll-free telephone hot line for the |
9 | | public to report allegations of fraud in the executive branch |
10 | | of State government. The Office may conduct audits concerning |
11 | | alleged fraud and, in appropriate circumstances, may refer |
12 | | allegations of fraud to law enforcement authorities or other |
13 | | governmental entities with jurisdiction over the alleged |
14 | | fraud. The Office shall adopt rules for the implementation of |
15 | | this Section.

16 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
17 | | becoming law.
