Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Alzheimer's Disease Assistance Act. Makes changes to the Act's policy declaration. Changes the definition of "Alzheimer's disease" and sets forth definitions for "dementia", "related disorders", and "dementia-capable State". Provides that by January 1, 2014 (instead of 1987), and every 3 years thereafter, the Department of Public Health shall prepare a State Alzheimer's Disease Assistance Plan and sets forth provisions with regard to the plan concerning public hearings, gathering feedback on recommendations, input from agencies and stakeholders, purpose and directive, and the examination of certain subject matter. Makes changes to the composition of the Alzheimer's Disease Advisory Committee. Makes other changes.

House Floor Amendment No. 1
Replaces a reference to "dementia" with "Alzheimer's disease". Provides that the Department of Public Health or members of the General Assembly or other interested parties may hold (instead of the Department of Public Health shall hold 2) public hearings at locations throughout the State for input by consumers and providers of care and utilize technological means or work with advocacy organizations that have technological capability to gather feedback. Makes permissive certain requirements concerning testimony and public comment. Provides that the results of any public hearings held pursuant to the State Alzheimer's Disease Assistance Plan shall be presented to the Department in a format as determined by the Department to be included in the State Alzheimer's Disease Assistance Plan. Deletes provisions concerning the plan's directive. Deletes a provision that requires the plan to include an examination of certain topics in its assessment and recommendations and provides instead that the plan shall incorporate any testimony that may be offered on those topics.
