2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Russell F. "Pat" Patterson, who passed |
4 | | away on December 19, 2010; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Russell Patterson was born on July 8, 1919, in |
6 | | Alton; he was the son of Russell and Nora Chappell Patterson; |
7 | | he married Lois Pauline "Polly" George of Dardanelle, Arkansas, |
8 | | in Alton on Easter Sunday in 1943; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Russell Patterson was a graduate of Alton High |
10 | | School; he subsequently attended Shurtleff College (Southern |
11 | | Illinois University); and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Russell Patterson served his country with pride |
13 | | and distinction as a member of the 3rd Armored Division during |
14 | | World War II; during his stint with the Army, he took part in |
15 | | the invasion of Normandy, the subsequent advance through |
16 | | France, and the attack on the Rhineland; while on a |
17 | | reconnaissance mission in March of 1945 near Paderborn, |
18 | | Germany, he was wounded in action and captured by German |
19 | | forces; he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart, |
20 | | among many other military decorations, for his meritorious |
21 | | service; and

1 | | WHEREAS, After returning from his service in the Army, |
2 | | Russell Patterson was employed as an electrician for Standard |
3 | | Oil in Wood River; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, Russell Patterson was active in Alton sports as a |
5 | | member of the city softball league and was an avid golfer with |
6 | | his wife; he was also a lifelong member of the Cherry Street |
7 | | Baptist Church and sang with the Light Opera Guild of St. Louis |
8 | | for several years; and |
9 | | WHEREAS, Russell Patterson was preceded in death by his |
10 | | wife; his daughter, Barbara Schrimpf; and his brothers, |
11 | | Kenneth, George, and Harold; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, Russell Patterson is survived by his daughters and |
13 | | sons-in-law, Sandra Moyer and her husband, Barry, and Jane |
14 | | VanWinkle and her husband, David; his grandchildren, Susan |
15 | | Marie (Schrimpf) Hatfield, Matthew William Schrimpf, Sarah Ann |
16 | | (Moyer) Sanders, Lindsay Nicole (Parrish) Jones, and Megan |
17 | | Elise (Moyer) Baiter; his great-grandchildren;
his sister, |
18 | | Mary (Patterson) Griffin; and his dedicated caregiver and |
19 | | loving friend, Pam Tite; therefore, be it
