SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Frank Ryskiewicz of Waukegan, who passed
4away on June 6, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Frank Ryskiewicz was born on May 4, 1926 in
6Chicago and grew up in North Chicago; he graduated from Holy
7Rosary grade school in 1940 and Waukegan Township High School
8in 1944; and
 
9    WHEREAS, He was the recipient of a Victory Medal, a Good
10Conduct Medal, and an American Theater Ribbon during his
11service as an armed gunner in the United States Army Air Corps
12from January 1944 to June 1946; he studied Engineering at
13Millikin University for two years after the war; in 1948, he
14started his first business, Frank and Jerry's Service Station,
15with childhood friend, Jerry Berzin; in 1952, he went into the
16bowling business with Albert Browne at Park Bowling Lanes; in
171956, Frank and Albert joined Roy Bertrand in opening Bertrand
18Bowling Lanes, with George Lawrence joining the three in 1964;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, Sunset Bowl was built in 1966 and he owned it
21until 1990; he was a member of the Bowling Proprietors
22Association of America, the Illinois State Bowling

1Proprietors, and the Chicagoland Bowling Proprietors for 54
2years; the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Tournament
3was hosted at Bertrand Lanes from 1964 to 1985; he served as a
4Director of Northern States Financial Corporation, NorStates
5Bank (formerly Bank of Waukegan), from 1978 to 2006; he had
6been a member of the Glen Flora Country Club since 1974 and was
7a longtime member of the Lake County Chamber of Commerce,
8Waukegan City Club (President for one year), Waukegan Lions
9Club, Waukegan Elks Lodge #702, Waukegan Loyal Order of Moose
10Lodge #706, the Knights of Columbus, and the Polish Legion of
11American Veterans; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Frank Ryskiewicz was preceded in death by his
13father, Casimir (Charlie); his mother, Charlotte (Lottie)
14Ryskiewicz; and his sister, Alice Eiserman; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Frank Ryskiewicz is survived by his wife, Joan, of
1652 years; his daughter, Janice (Werner) Reineke-Ryskiewicz;
17his daughter, Judith (Jode) Ryskiewicz; his grandchildren,
18Werner Francis and Cassandra Reineke; his brother, John
19Ryskiewicz; his sister-in-law, Loretta Carr; and several
20nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
23his family and friends, the passing of Frank Ryskiewicz; and be

2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to the family of Frank Ryskiewicz as a symbol of our
4sincere sympathy.
