SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Frank Ryskiewicz of Waukegan, who passed away on June 6, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Frank Ryskiewicz was born on May 4, 1926 in Chicago and grew up in North Chicago; he graduated from Holy Rosary grade school in 1940 and Waukegan Township High School in 1944; and

WHEREAS, He was the recipient of a Victory Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, and an American Theater Ribbon during his service as an armed gunner in the United States Army Air Corps from January 1944 to June 1946; he studied Engineering at Millikin University for two years after the war; in 1948, he started his first business, Frank and Jerry's Service Station, with childhood friend, Jerry Berzin; in 1952, he went into the bowling business with Albert Browne at Park Bowling Lanes; in 1956, Frank and Albert joined Roy Bertrand in opening Bertrand Bowling Lanes, with George Lawrence joining the three in 1964; and

WHEREAS, Sunset Bowl was built in 1966 and he owned it until 1990; he was a member of the Bowling Proprietors Association of America, the Illinois State Bowling Proprietors, and the Chicagoland Bowling Proprietors for 54 years; the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Tournament was hosted at Bertrand Lanes from 1964 to 1985; he served as a Director of Northern States Financial Corporation, NorStates Bank (formerly Bank of Waukegan), from 1978 to 2006; he had been a member of the Glen Flora Country Club since 1974 and was a longtime member of the Lake County Chamber of Commerce, Waukegan City Club (President for one year), Waukegan Lions Club, Waukegan Elks Lodge #702, Waukegan Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #706, the Knights of Columbus, and the Polish Legion of American Veterans; and

WHEREAS, Frank Ryskiewicz was preceded in death by his father, Casimir (Charlie); his mother, Charlotte (Lottie) Ryskiewicz; and his sister, Alice Eiserman; and

WHEREAS, Frank Ryskiewicz is survived by his wife, Joan, of 52 years; his daughter, Janice (Werner) Reineke-Ryskiewicz; his daughter, Judith (Jode) Ryskiewicz; his grandchildren, Werner Francis and Cassandra Reineke; his brother, John Ryskiewicz; his sister-in-law, Loretta Carr; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Frank Ryskiewicz; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Frank Ryskiewicz as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
