| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Leon F. Gramley of Kaneville, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on January 15, 2010; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, He was born October 31, 1943, in Aurora, the son | ||||||
6 | of Benjamin and Frances (Flanders) Gramley;
he grew up in | ||||||
7 | Kaneville, attended local schools, and graduated from Kaneland | ||||||
8 | High School in 1962; he attended Iowa State University in Ames, | ||||||
9 | Iowa, for a time before graduating from DeVry School of | ||||||
10 | Electronics in Chicago; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the | ||||||
12 | United States Army and proudly served his country during the | ||||||
13 | Vietnam War; in December of 1967, he returned to civilian life | ||||||
14 | and worked for Illinois Bell; in 1971, he began farming | ||||||
15 | alongside his brother, Elmer, on the family farm in Kaneville; | ||||||
16 | he married Margaret Myers in 1965, and they were blessed with | ||||||
17 | two sons, Philip and Stephen; in 1991 he met Mary Fecht and | ||||||
18 | they were married on September 6, 1992; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, He was a volunteer fireman with the Kaneville Fire | ||||||
20 | Department; he later served for 13 years as an EMT and | ||||||
21 | paramedic with Elburn ambulance; he served on the Kaneville | ||||||
22 | Township Board and was elected Kaneville Township Supervisor in |

1 | 1994; he was also the vice president and sexton for Kaneville | ||||||
2 | Cemetery and was very active in the Kaneville Memorial Day | ||||||
3 | service, serving in the color guard and honor guard as well as | ||||||
4 | identifying the graves of all the veterans; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, He was the driving force behind Kaneville | ||||||
6 | Township's designation as a village, dedicating untold hours | ||||||
7 | until it was made official in 2007; he was an avid NASCAR fan, | ||||||
8 | cheering on Dale Earnhardt with every turn; he took tap dancing | ||||||
9 | for a time and played the French horn as well as the piano; he | ||||||
10 | was always "fixing" anything for anyone; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS,
Leon Gramley is survived by his loving wife, Mary; | ||||||
13 | his three sons, Philip (Christine) Gramley, Stephen (Leanne) | ||||||
14 | Gramley, and Albert (Lori) Fecht; Stephen's children, Lillian | ||||||
15 | and Robert, and Albert's children, Joshua, Hannah and Emilee; | ||||||
16 | his brother, Elmer (Janet) Gramley and his daughter, Sara; and | ||||||
17 | a countryside full of friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
20 | his family and friends, the passing of Leon Gramley; and be it | ||||||
21 | further
