SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Mercerline Dye of East St. Louis, who
4 passed away on January 12, 2010; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born on September 12, 1952 in Saint Louis,
6 Missouri, to Charles and Betty Pettus and was lovingly called
7 "Sugar Puddin"; she graduated from East St. Louis Lincoln
8 Senior High School in the top 5% of the Class of 1970; she was
9 one of the first students enrolled in the Demonstration Class
10 in English for the State of Illinois, a member of the National
11 Honor Society, and a charter member of the AKA Pearls; and
 
12     WHEREAS, She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human
13 Services from Southern Illinois University; she entered State
14 Community College and attended an accelerated nursing program;
15 she became an R.N. and worked at Home Health Care, CMC, Barnes
16 Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital, and St. Elizabeth's Hospital
17 before retiring in 1988; and
 
18     WHEREAS, She married Calvin Mercerline in 1973; she enjoyed
19 dancing, shopping, and "cooking at midnight"; and
 
20     WHEREAS, She was a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church and was
21 baptized on October 15, 1967 under the pastorate of Reverend

1 M.R. Lemons and served on the Health Unit Board; she became an
2 active member of Love Alive Petra Ministries in St. Louis in
3 2005 under the pastorate of Reverend Lillie Marable and
4 Reverend Earl Anthony; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her brother, Carlos
6 Pettus; and
 
7     WHEREAS, She is survived by her children, Rayonda Dye and
8 Calvin Dye, Jr.; her parents; her brothers, Ramon Pettus and
9 Andre (Carolyn) Brown; her life long friends, Alma Green and
10 Roxanne Carroway; and her many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews,
11 and nieces; therefore, be it
 
12     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
13 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
14 her family and friends, the passing of Mercerline Dye; and be
15 it further
 
16     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to the family of Mercerline Dye as a symbol of our
18 sincere sympathy.
