SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Lawrence J. Suffredin Sr.; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Lawrence Suffredin Sr. was born on June 1, 1921,
5 in Chicago; his parents were Frank and Isola Suffredini; he
6 married Patricia Mulrainey Suffredin on July 6, 1946; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Lawrence Suffredin Sr. attended Presentation
8 Grade School, Crain High School, and DePaul University; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Lawrence Suffredin Sr. served in the United States
10 Army from 1942 until 1945, having served in Africa and Europe
11 during World War II; he was awarded the Bronze Star and the
12 Purple Heart, among other combat and campaign medals, for his
13 meritorious service; and
 
14     WHEREAS, After World War II, Lawrence Suffredin Sr. served
15 as a Chicago policeman; he then became the owner of Chicago
16 Produce Publishing Company; known as the "Printer to South
17 Water Market", he published numerous reports on the Chicago
18 fruit and vegetable market and published a newspaper, "The
19 Chicago Fruit and Vegetable Reporter", 5 days a week from 1955
20 to 1986; and

1     WHEREAS, Lawrence Suffredin Sr. was a founder and former
2 president of Westchester Baseball; he was a former officer of
3 the Holy Name Society of Divine Infant Parish; he and his wife
4 were former co-presidents of the Parents' Association of Loyola
5 University; he was also a former 25-year bingo worker for the
6 Immaculate Heart of Mary High School in Irving Park; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Lawrence Suffredin Sr. was a great organizer of
8 parties, where balloons and magic were often found; he was also
9 well-known for owning a large collection of humorous hats that
10 added to the enjoyment of many occasions; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Lawrence Suffredin Sr. was preceded in death by
12 his wife, Patricia; his parents; and his brother, Vincent; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Lawrence Suffredin Sr. is survived by his
14 children, Lawrence Jr. (Gloria Callaci), Genna (Richard
15 Erikson), Paul (Barbara), Susanne (Richard Moskal), Patricia
16 (Larry Brown), John (Gail), Peter, and Michelle (Peter Marcy);
17 his grandchildren, Tom, Liz, Courtney, Nicholas, Stephen,
18 Kevin, and Morgan Suffredin, Andrea and Daniel Erikson, Erin
19 and Bob Brown, and Ethan and Henry Moskal; therefore, be it
 
20     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
21 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
22 his family and friends, the passing of Lawrence J. Suffredin

2     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to the family of Lawrence Suffredin Sr. as an
4 expression of our sympathy.
