SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Ruby J. Valentine of Washington, who
4 passed away on May 10, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Ruby Valentine was born on Dec. 26, 1929, in
6 Lawrenceburg, Tennessee; her parents were Vardie and Vera
7 (Wilson) Wilburn; she married J.C. Valentine on March 15, 1947
8 in Florence, Alabama; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Ruby Valentine worked at the Hotel Pere Marquette
10 in Peoria for 30 years in laundry and housekeeping, where she
11 served as both a manager and a union steward; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Ruby Valentine was a member of Crossroads Baptist
13 Church in Peoria, where she was active with the Jolly 60s
14 group; in her later years, she attended Beverly Manor Baptist
15 Church in Washington; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Ruby Valentine served as a precinct judge in
17 Peoria County; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Ruby Valentine was preceded in death by her
19 husband; her infant son; and her granddaughter, Laura
20 Valentine; and

1     WHEREAS, Ruby Valentine is survived by her sons, Stan
2 (Sandy) Valentine and Christopher (Julie) Valentine; her
3 daughter, Linda (Tom) Abbott; her sisters, Marie Hodge, Melanie
4 Gray, and Grace (Harold) Pugh; her brother, Ray (Ginger)
5 Wilburn; her grandchildren, Kelly (Larry) Green, Phil (Toni)
6 Abbott, Jason Valentine, Doug Valentine, Samantha Valentine,
7 and Jack Valentine; her great-grandchildren, Erica Bartsch,
8 Adam Green, Tiffany Abbott, and Cassidy Abbott; and her
9 great-great-grandson, James Daniel Bartsch; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
11 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
12 her family and friends, the passing of Ruby J. Valentine; and
13 be it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to the family of Ruby Valentine as an expression of
16 our sympathy.
