SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Reverend Frank Selby Lee, Jr. of Chicago,
4 who passed away on April 26, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, On November 9, 1957, in Washington D.C., Frank
6 Selby Lee, Jr. was born to Dr. Marjorie Washington Lee and
7 Frank Selby Lee, Sr.; in Washington, D.C., he attended Woodward
8 School for Boys; his family later relocated to Illinois so that
9 his parents could continue their graduate studies at the
10 University of Illinois; he attended Urbana High School, where
11 he excelled in sports and was a State champion hurdler; while
12 in high school he received Jesus Christ as his personal savior;
13 and
 
14     WHEREAS, He attended Illinois State University in Normal;
15 his love of Christian fellowship inspired him to join the
16 M.O.N.K. (short for "Men Of a New Kind") Christian brotherhood,
17 and to seek Christian service as a summer missionary with
18 Campus Crusade for Christ International; Frank was ordained as
19 a minister at the Union Missionary Baptist Church of
20 Bloomington/Normal by Reverend Dr. P. Bush; and
 
21     WHEREAS, For several years he served as the Campus Minister
22 at Illinois State University under the leadership of Reverend

1 Todd, under the support of Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church,
2 and Reverend Dr. Curry, Pastor; on December 15, 1985, Frank
3 Selby Lee and Rose Sharon Myatt were united in marriage; they
4 later moved to Chicago with their first son, uniting with
5 Providence Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of
6 Reverend Fristoe; and
 
7     WHEREAS, In June of 1999, while pursuing a Doctorate of
8 Philosophy Degree, he traveled to the Israeli West Bank to
9 participate in an archeological dig; he also served as a
10 faculty member of the Baptist General State Congress for 18
11 years, as a faculty member of the National Congress of
12 Christian Education for 5 years, as an Old Testament instructor
13 with Oral Roberts University, and was affiliated with the
14 Baptist Pastor's Conference of Chicago and Vicinity; in 1997 he
15 was first called to serve Kendrick Memorial Missionary Baptist
16 Church as an interim Pastor; a year later, he was of duly
17 elected by a large majority of the congregation to the Office
18 of Pastor; and
 
19     WHEREAS, He and his wife renewed their wedding vows in
20 April of 2009 with Chaplain John Munger presiding; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Reverend Frank Selby Lee, Jr., leaves his father,
22 Frank S. Lee, Sr. (Ophelia); his wife, Rose M. Lee; his
23 children, Frank III, Andrea, Jonathan, Rose, Selah, and

1 Angelica; his aunts, Dr. Malitha Holbert, Carolyn Holts
2 (Raymond), Gloria Royster, Evelyn McEachin, Alberta Littlejohn
3 (Billy), and Jean Lee; his uncles, Thomas Lee (Betsy), Wellesly
4 Washington Jr. (Jannie), Paul Washington (Andrea), and James
5 Washington (Harriett); a host of cousins and other relatives;
6 the Kendrick Memorial Missionary Baptist Church family; and
7 many friends to cherish his memory; therefore, be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
9 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
10 his family and friends, the passing of Reverend Frank Selby
11 Lee, Jr.; and be it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to the family of Reverend Frank Selby Lee, Jr. as a
14 symbol of our sincere sympathy.
