SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Helen Rachael Reed of Zion, who passed
4 away on February 17, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born October 31, 1919, in Champaign, to
6 James and Kathryn McWilliams; she graduated from Mattoon High
7 School in 1937; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Following many years as a housewife and mother,
9 Helen was employed for 18 years as an x-ray therapist and as
10 supervisor of the E.E.G. department at Victory Memorial
11 Hospital in Waukegan before retiring in 1980; Helen was an
12 active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Waukegan for
13 many years, serving as an ordained Deacon, an officer in the
14 Women's Association, ladies bible study, and sewing group; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Her personal talents included being an excellent
16 cook and an accomplished seamstress; relationships were a
17 particular passion, and Helen savored her roles as wife,
18 mother, grandmother, and friend to many; and
 
19     WHEREAS, She was married to William J. Walter for 43 years,
20 who preceded her in 1984; and

1     WHEREAS, Helen Reed is survived by her husband of 21 years,
2 Milton Omer Reed; her daughter, Carol (Michael) Magden; her
3 sons, Gordon (Heidi) Walter and Gregg (Kathy) Walter; her
4 step-son, John (Sandy) Reed; her five grandchildren and five
5 great-grandchildren; and her two brothers, Raymond (Jean)
6 McWilliams and Glenn (LuElla) McWilliams; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
8 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
9 her family and friends, the passing of Helen Reed; and be it
10 further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the family of Helen Reed as a symbol of our
13 sincere sympathy.
