HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of U.S.
4Marine Corps Lance Corporal Robert J. Newton of Creve Coeur,
5who passed away on August 23, 2010 while supporting combat
6operations in Afghanistan; and
 
7    WHEREAS, LCpl. Robert Newton graduated from East Peoria
8Community High School in 2007; and
 
9    WHEREAS, LCpl. Robert Newton served his country with pride
10and distinction as a member of the United States Marine Corps
11since June of 2007; he was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th
12Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division of the I Marine
13Expeditionary Force based at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat
14Center Twentynine Palms, California; he was on his 2nd combat
15deployment at the time of his passing; and
 
16    WHEREAS, LCpl. Robert Newton was the recipient of numerous
17decorations for his service, including the Purple Heart, the
18Combat Action Ribbon, the Navy Presidential Unit Citation, the
19Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service
20Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal,
21the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Sea Service
22Deployment Ribbon, and the NATO Medal; and

1    WHEREAS, LCpl. Robert Newton was affectionately known as RJ
2by his family and friends; and
 
3    WHEREAS, LCpl. Robert Newton is survived by his parents,
4Richard and Denise Newton; and his sister, Breanna; and
 
5    WHEREAS, LCpl. Robert Newton's patriotism and courage will
6be remembered fondly by his loving family, his fellow soldiers,
7and the citizens of our grateful nation; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Lance
11Corporal Robert J. Newton; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of LCpl. Robert Newton as an expression
14of our sympathy.
