2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Wisconsin State | ||||||
4 | Representative Annette Polly Williams on her retirement; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Representative Williams was born on January 10, | ||||||
6 | 1937, in Belzoni, Mississippi; she is a graduate of North | ||||||
7 | Division High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and she received | ||||||
8 | her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of | ||||||
9 | Wisconsin-Milwaukee; she is the mother of four, grandmother of | ||||||
10 | seven, and great-grandmother of two; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, She was elected to serve the 10th Assembly | ||||||
12 | District in 1980; she was the longest serving woman in the | ||||||
13 | history of the Wisconsin State Legislature until her retirement | ||||||
14 | decision; she has the distinction of being the first Democratic | ||||||
15 | Legislator in Wisconsin history to be appointed a committee | ||||||
16 | chair by a Republican controlled Legislature; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, During her time with the Wisconsin State | ||||||
18 | Legislature she has served on a variety of committees, | ||||||
19 | including: Women and Minorities, Commerce and Community | ||||||
20 | Affairs, Primary and Secondary Education, Consumer and | ||||||
21 | Commercial Credit, Census and Redistricting, Financial | ||||||
22 | Institutions, and others; she has chaired the Assembly |

1 | Committee on Education Reform, the Assembly Committee on Urban | ||||||
2 | Education, the Assembly Committee on Consumer Affairs, the | ||||||
3 | Assembly Committee on Commerce and Consumer Affairs, and the | ||||||
4 | Assembly Committee on Small Business; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Representative Williams has received many awards, | ||||||
6 | including: the National Black Caucus of State Legislators | ||||||
7 | Presidents Award for Distinguished Service in 1990, the United | ||||||
8 | Community Center's Friends of the Hispanic Community Award in | ||||||
9 | 1991, Freedom Magazine's 1992 National Human Rights Award, the | ||||||
10 | University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's 1998 Life Time Achievement | ||||||
11 | Award, the Milwaukee Times' Black Excellence (Pioneer) Award in | ||||||
12 | 2001, and the Ouadrevon Hennings' Foundation Award; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Representative Williams plans on spending more | ||||||
14 | time with her family and her church, while continuing to stay | ||||||
15 | involved with the community and fighting for issues relating to | ||||||
16 | children and their families; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
18 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
19 | congratulate Wisconsin State Representative Annette Polly | ||||||
20 | Williams on her retirement and wish her all the best in her | ||||||
21 | future endeavors; and be it further
