2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Rabbi Daniel | ||||||
4 | Cotzin Burg as he leaves Chicago for Baltimore to become a | ||||||
5 | Senior Rabbi at Congregation Beth Am; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Daniel Burg is a Rabbi at Anshe Emet Synagogue in | ||||||
7 | Chicago; Rabbi Burg was ordained by the Ziegler School of | ||||||
8 | Rabbinic Studies at the University of Judaism in Los Angeles, | ||||||
9 | California in May 2005; he holds Master of Arts degrees in | ||||||
10 | Rabbinic Studies and Jewish Education from the U.J. and a | ||||||
11 | Bachelor of Arts degree in Hebrew Studies and Anthropology from | ||||||
12 | the University of Wisconsin-Madison;
Rabbi Burg serves on the | ||||||
13 | boards of the Lakeview Actions Coalition (LAC) and the advisory | ||||||
14 | board to the Chicago Center for Jewish Genetic Disorders; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Rabbi Daniel Burg is blessed to share his life | ||||||
16 | with the talented Rabbi Miriam Burg, their daughter, Eliyah, | ||||||
17 | and their son, Shamir; Rabbi Burg is a lifelong Chicago Cubs | ||||||
18 | fan, testament to his loyalty, tenacity, and humility; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, During Rabbi Daniel Burg's service at Anshe Emet | ||||||
20 | Synagogue, his congregants have learned and laughed and danced | ||||||
21 | and sung; Rabbi Burg has led them into founding their very own | ||||||
22 | and very sacred community, Chevra Kadisha; he established a |

| |||||||
1 | lasting institution which may stand highest on the list of his | ||||||
2 | myriad accomplishments; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, He is an inspired teacher, and with him beside his | ||||||
4 | congregation, they learned by doing; they are grateful | ||||||
5 | beneficiaries left to carry on the sacred tradition introduced | ||||||
6 | during his tenure; and | ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Rabbi Daniel Burg is leaving Chicago for Baltimore | ||||||
8 | to succeed Rabbi Jon Konheim as a spiritual leader of Beth Am, | ||||||
9 | a congregation of approximately 400 families and individuals; | ||||||
10 | and | ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Out of deep gratitude and in recognition of the | ||||||
12 | extra effort he put forth in introducing and establishing a | ||||||
13 | centuries old element of community that has been disappearing | ||||||
14 | from modern Jewish tradition, this resolution is given to him | ||||||
15 | in the hope that he will remember his time in Chicago
fondly; | ||||||
16 | therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
18 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
19 | congratulate Rabbi Burg as he moves to his new position in | ||||||
20 | Baltimore and thank him for all his work at Anshe Emet | ||||||
21 | Synagogue; and be it further
