HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2
    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Mike Gordy on his 
4
retirement from Community High School District 117 in Antioch; 
5
and
  
 
6
    WHEREAS, Mike Gordy has served as the advisor for the 
7
student run publication, the Tom-Tom, for 32 years; the Tom-Tom 
8
has won State and national awards for its many qualities, 
9
including the use of digital photography; and
  
 
10
    WHEREAS, The Tom-Tom has won the National Scholastic Press 
11
All-American award 13 times in the last 20 years; the newspaper 
12
has also won the All-KEMPA award 15 times in the last 20 years; 
13
and
  
 
14
    WHEREAS, Mr. Gordy has taught Electronic Publishing 
15
classes, introducing students to new technology in computers, 
16
Internet accessibility, and website building; he has also 
17
taught Intro to Journalism and Newspaper Journalism; and
  
 
18
    WHEREAS, In addition, he has contributed to English I and 
19
II as part of the English Department; over the last two years 
20
he has worked with freshmen, helping them to read and write 
21
better; and

    WHEREAS, Mike Gordy has also served as a Sequoit assistant 
2
football coach; therefore, be it
  
 
3
    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
4
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
5
congratulate Mike Gordy on his retirement, thank him for his 
6
service, and wish him all the best in his future endeavors; and 
7
be it further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9
presented to Mike Gordy as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
