HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2
    WHEREAS, DePaul University is the largest Catholic 
3
university in the United States and the largest private 
4
non-profit university in the Midwest; and
  
 
5
    WHEREAS, Throughout its history, DePaul University has 
6
been dedicated to helping and educating the economically 
7
disadvantaged; and
  
 
8
    WHEREAS, DePaul University has worked with the Illinois 
9
House of Representatives and higher education agencies in 
10
Illinois to improve the quality and affordability of higher 
11
education in Illinois; and
  
 
12
    WHEREAS, In 2010, the faculty, students, and staff of 
13
DePaul University will celebrate the work and accomplishments 
14
of its namesake, St. Vincent DePaul, and St. Louise de 
15
Marillac, founder of the Daughters of Charity, during the 350th 
16
anniversary of their deaths; and
  
 
17
    WHEREAS, In honoring the example of St. Vincent and St. 
18
Louise through its mission of education and service, DePaul 
19
University is embarking on a capital campaign called "Many 
20
Dreams, One Mission"; and

    WHEREAS, The campaign will raise funds to build campus 
2
facilities that will enhance the University's 
3
academically-rigorous and nationally-acclaimed programs of 
4
study and provide scholarship assistance to more students; 
5
therefore, be it
  
 
6
    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
7
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
8
congratulate the faculty, students, and staff of DePaul 
9
University for the university's many contributions to higher 
10
education and community service; and be it further
  
 
11
    RESOLVED, That we join with DePaul University to celebrate 
12
the 350th anniversary of St. Vincent DePaul and St. Louise 
13
DeMarillac; and be it further
  
 
14
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
15
presented to Reverend Dennis H. Holtschneider, President of 
16
DePaul University, as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
