HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Mary Ann Ahl on the 
4
occasion of winning the 2009 Illinois Library Association 
5
Trustee of the Year Award; and
  
 
6
    WHEREAS, Mary Ann Ahl has served on the Orland Park Public 
7
Library Board for over 30 years, including terms as President, 
8
Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary of the Board; during 
9
her tenure with the Board, the Library has grown from a small 
10
library serving a community of about 20,000 to a nationally 
11
recognized community which serves nearly 70,000 people; and
  
 
12
    WHEREAS, Mary Ann Ahl's experience and dedication 
13
contributed greatly to the passage of a successful referendum 
14
that passed by a two-thirds vote; the referendum enabled the 
15
Library to grow to 3 times the size of the original facility 
16
and provide services for the surrounding communities; and
  
 
17
    WHEREAS, Mary Ann Ahl has attended numerous ALA and ILA 
18
Conferences and LACONI Trustee functions to hear what other 
19
libraries are doing to provide services to their patrons, so 
20
that the Orland Park Public Library can remain as 
21
reader-centric as possible; and

    WHEREAS, Mary Ann Ahl was employed as an emergency room 
2
nurse for Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn until her retirement; and
  
 
3
    WHEREAS, Mary Ann Ahl and her husband, Tom, have been 
4
married for over 40 years; together, they have 3 children, John 
5
(wife, Anita), Michael, and Amy, and 5 grandchildren, Tommy, 
6
Lily, Brianna, Adam, and Amanda; and
 
7
    WHEREAS, Mary Ann Ahl serves as a model of hard work, 
8
integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of 
9
Illinois; therefore, be it
  
 
10
    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
11
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
12
congratulate Mary Ann Ahl on the occasion of winning the 2009 
13
Illinois Library Association Trustee of the Year Award and wish 
14
her continued success and happiness in the future; and be it 
15
further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17
presented to Mary Ann Ahl as a symbol of our esteem and 
18
respect.
