HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize the designation of the
4 Thomas M. Pigg Wetlands Restoration Area in the Carlyle Lake
5 wetlands by the United States Army Corps of Engineers; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Thomas M. Pigg was an employee of the U.S. Army
7 Corps of Engineers; he began his career as a park ranger at the
8 Carlyle Lake Project, serving there from 2002 to 2006; he later
9 served as a park ranger and lock operator of the lock and dam
10 at the Kaskaskia River Project; and
 
11     WHEREAS, During his many years of service at the Carlyle
12 Lake Project, Thomas Pigg became an advocate for youth outdoor
13 recreational programs; he volunteered many hours as an
14 instructor at the Illinois Federation of Outdoor Recreation
15 Youth Skills Camp; he helped with the development of and hunted
16 often in the public use areas of the Boulder Flats Wetland
17 Restoration Area; and
 
18     WHEREAS, During his tenure at the Kaskaskia River Project,
19 Thomas Pigg was instrumental in the development of a trail
20 through a high-quality bottomland forested area and enhanced
21 the wetlands, planted trees, and wildlife food plots of the
22 area; and

1     WHEREAS, Following the tragic death of Thomas Pigg, the
2 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers renamed a portion of the Boulder
3 Flats Wetland Restoration Area at North Fork West the "Thomas
4 M. Pigg Wetlands Restoration Area" in honor of Mr. Pigg and his
5 many contributions to the Corps and its conservation efforts;
6 therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9 recognize the designation of the Thomas M. Pigg Wetlands
10 Restoration Area in the Carlyle Lake wetlands by the United
11 States Army Corps of Engineers; and be it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to the family of Thomas Pigg as a symbol of our
14 esteem and respect.
