2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the students, | ||||||
4 | alumni, staff, and administration of Lincoln Trail College in | ||||||
5 | Robinson on the occasion of the college's 40th anniversary; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Lincoln Trail College was established in 1969 as a | ||||||
7 | part of District 529 of which Olney Central College and Wabash | ||||||
8 | Valley College were members, and of which Frontier Community | ||||||
9 | College later joined; Dr. Joseph C. Piland served as the first | ||||||
10 | President of Lincoln Trail College and led the school during | ||||||
11 | its first year in temporary locations until its completion and | ||||||
12 | opening for classes in the fall of 1970; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Lincoln Trail College is a community college that | ||||||
14 | offers over 30 certificate and degree-awarding programs, and | ||||||
15 | also offers online four-year degrees through its affiliations | ||||||
16 | with Franklin University and McKendree College; it has | ||||||
17 | developed a superior reputation for providing high-quality | ||||||
18 | instruction with personalized attention and excellent student | ||||||
19 | support; and

20 | WHEREAS, The mission of Lincoln Trail College as a member | ||||||
21 | of Illinois Eastern Community Colleges is to provide excellence | ||||||
22 | in teaching, learning, public service, and economic |

1 | development, and throughout the years has been an area leader | ||||||
2 | in the development of many successful technical, vocational, | ||||||
3 | and transfer programs; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Lincoln Trail College is accredited through The | ||||||
5 | Higher Learning commission and is approved by the Illinois | ||||||
6 | Board of Higher Education; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Lincoln Trail College is proud of the many | ||||||
8 | regional and national achievements of its athletic teams, which | ||||||
9 | participate in the National Junior College Athletic | ||||||
10 | Association as a part of the Great Rivers Athletic Conference; | ||||||
11 | and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Lincoln Trail college has outstanding drama and | ||||||
13 | music programs, and has produced numerous entertaining and | ||||||
14 | successful pieces with the talents of both students and | ||||||
15 | community members; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Lincoln Trail College's International Program is | ||||||
17 | pleased to host numerous students from all over the world each | ||||||
18 | year in an effort to engage students in a global dialogue and | ||||||
19 | foster skills for students to enter into a multicultural global | ||||||
20 | workplace; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Since its founding, Lincoln Trail College has |

1 | grown to enroll over 1,000 students per semester, both online | ||||||
2 | and on-campus; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Lincoln Trail College serves the community by | ||||||
4 | offering affordable opportunities to expand, retrain, and | ||||||
5 | strengthen the industrial base of southeastern Illinois; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Lincoln Trail College has an exceptional track | ||||||
7 | record of producing proud alumni who have built successful | ||||||
8 | careers and enriched their communities; therefore, be it
| ||||||
9 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
10 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
11 | congratulate the students, alumni, staff, and administration | ||||||
12 | of Lincoln Trail College in Robinson on its 40th anniversary | ||||||
13 | celebration of providing quality education and wish them | ||||||
14 | continued success in the future; and be it further
| ||||||
15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
16 | presented to Beverly Turkal, President of Lincoln Trail | ||||||
17 | College, and the Illinois Eastern Community Colleges Board of | ||||||
18 | Trustees, as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
