HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Erik Blomstedt on 
4
the occasion of his retirement as Director of the Three Rivers 
5
Library District; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Erik Blomstedt moved to the United States from 
7
Sweden in 1956; he received his bachelor's degree in psychology 
8
from Northeastern University, his master's degree in library 
9
science from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, 
10
and another master's degree in public administration from 
11
Roosevelt University; and

 
12
    WHEREAS, Erik Blomstedt served our country with pride and 
13
distinction as a member of the United States Army, 101st 
14
Airborne Division from 1969 to 1972; during his tenure, he 
15
served as an interrogator and interpreter in Vietnam, earning a 
16
Bronze Star for his service; and

 
17
    WHEREAS, Erik Blomstedt was previously employed with the 
18
Chicago Public Library, a position that included time working 
19
at the Law Library in the Cook County Jail; and

 
20
    WHEREAS, On August 29, 1977, Erik Blomstedt was hired to 
21
serve as the Head Librarian of the Tri-County Public Library

District; the district was later renamed the Three Rivers 
2
Library; and

 
3
    WHEREAS, As Director of the Three Rivers Library District, 
4
Erik Blomstedt oversaw the establishment of the first library 
5
on Tryon Street in Channahon; he supervised the construction of 
6
the new library on Channon Drive in Channahon, which opened in 
7
1981; he also facilitated the addition of the Minooka Branch 
8
Library in 1992; and

 
9
    WHEREAS, Erik Blomstedt is an avid stamp collector and is a 
10
handyman at home; he also enjoys cooking and dulcimer music; 
11
and

 
12
    WHEREAS, Erik Blomstedt married his wife, Lily, on May 18, 
13
1974; he is the father of Jennifer and James and the 
14
grandfather of Lorelai and Adam; and

 
15
    WHEREAS, Erik Blomstedt's accomplishments will be honored 
16
by the Three Rivers Library Board, the library's staff, and 
17
members of his community on June 19 and 20, 2009; and

 
18
    WHEREAS, Erik Blomstedt has served as a model of hard work, 
19
integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of 
20
Illinois; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
2
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
3
congratulate Erik Blomstedt on the occasion of his retirement 
4
and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it 
5
further

 
6
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
7
presented to Erik Blomstedt as a symbol of our esteem and 
8
respect.
