HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Tyrone
4 Kenner of Chicago, who passed away on April 27, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mr. Kenner had been a Chicago police officer and
6 community organizer when he successfully ran for alderman in
7 1971; and
 
8     WHEREAS, His efforts to rejuvenate the 3rd ward, a tough
9 patch of the South Side that included the Robert Taylor
10 public-housing high-rises, included renovations for the 47th
11 Street "L" platform and various anti-crime measures; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Mr. Kenner grew up in south suburban Robbins and
13 graduated from Eisenhower High School in Blue Island; he served
14 in the United States Air Force and worked as a Chicago police
15 officer and a boxing promoter before getting into community
16 work; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Before his election as alderman, he was deputy
18 director of the Chicago Committee on Urban Opportunity; in
19 recent years he was an assistant engineer at Cook County Jail;
20 and

1     WHEREAS, Tyrone Kenner is survived by two sons, Howard and
2 Rev. Brian Kenner; his daughters, Renee Kenner-Clay, Kim Wash,
3 Tonja Simmons, and Sonja; and 26 grandchildren; therefore, be
4 it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Tyrone
8 Kenner; and be it further
 
9     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to the family of Tyrone Kenner as a symbol of our
11 sincere sympathy.
