HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Itasca Mayor 
4
Claudia "Gigi" Gruber on her retirement; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, Mayor Gruber has served the Village of Itasca 
6
since May of 1997; and

 
7
    WHEREAS, During her time as Mayor she has seen many changes 
8
in the community, including overseeing the building of the 
9
award winning Municipal Complex, designated one of the "150 
10
Great Places in Illinois" by the American Institute of 
11
Architects; and

 
12
    WHEREAS, In addition, she spearheaded the Dine Itasca 
13
program, supporting restaurants in the Village and the Hire 
14
Itasca program, assisting Itasca residents as they sought and 
15
found employment with the community; and

 
16
    WHEREAS, She served as Co-chair of the Western O'Hare 
17
Corridor Implementation Team and the O'Hare Noise 
18
Compatibility Commission; she led the initiative to have the 
19
Village designated as an "International Safe Community" by the 
20
National Safety Council and the World Health Organization; she 
21
created and instituted the Village of Itasca Oktoberfest; and

she stood up against the Illinois Department of Transportation 
2
and the expansion of Irving Park Road, creating ICARE (Itasca 
3
Citizens Against Road Expansion) in response; and

 
4
    WHEREAS, Mayor Gruber received the Governor's Home Town 
5
Award, recognizing the Itasca Citizen's Volunteer Program and 
6
national awards for the Village's annual National Night Out 
7
Program; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
9
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
10
congratulate Mayor Gruber and wish her all the best in her 
11
future endeavors; and be it further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
13
presented to Claudia "Gigi" Gruber as a symbol of our respect 
14
and esteem.
