HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the
4 Rotary Club of Illinois Beach Sunrise on the occasion of the
5 organization's 10th anniversary; and
 
6     WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of Illinois Beach Sunrise was
7 chartered on March 31, 1999; in the past 10 years, the
8 organization has been involved in many different activities;
9 and
 
10     WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of Illinois Beach Sunrise has
11 devoted great amounts of time and effort to its youth exchange
12 program; the organization has hosted inbound students from
13 Japan, Mexico, Sweden, Venezuela, South Africa, Taiwan,
14 Germany, and Columbia; the group has also sent students from
15 Zion and Benton to other countries, including Denmark, France,
16 Germany, Brazil, and Taiwan, to experience other cultures; and
 
17     WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of Illinois Beach Sunrise offers
18 scholarship opportunities to graduating seniors, including two
19 4-year sustaining scholarships of $1,000 per year, a $2,000
20 vocational scholarship, and two $1,000 academic scholarships;
21 each year, the club awards a $100 savings bond to middle school
22 students who show leadership and volunteerism skills; and

1     WHEREAS, To promote reading in its community, the Rotary
2 Club of Illinois Beach Sunrise placed a book rack at the Zion
3 train station, where paperback books are available to
4 commuters; the club also have provided funding to assist with
5 many local projects, including Boys & Girls Club, Children's
6 Dental Clinic, A Safe Place, African American Achievement,
7 Coalition for Healthy Communities, OLH Youth Ministries,
8 Methodist Church Appalachian Project, Rebuilding Together,
9 Partners in Reading, and Wounded Heroes, among many others; and
 
10     WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of Illinois Beach Sunrise has
11 sponsored numerous international projects, including a project
12 with a partner club in Baroda, India, where the club sent
13 $10,000 to make limb replacements available to children who
14 otherwise could not afford them; the clinic in Baroda also
15 helped a school for severely handicapped children with limb
16 replacements; some of the money was used to purchase sewing
17 machines to teach the local women a skill they could use to
18 feed their families; the club also helped to furnish a computer
19 lab in a township school in Khayelitsha, South Africa; and
 
20     WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of Illinois Beach Sunrise is
21 currently working with the Rotary Club of Helderberg to assist
22 the Eagles Rising Bridging School project in establishing a
23 computer lab; the project takes young people from disadvantaged

1 backgrounds who have completed high school and provides them
2 with a full bridging year away from their destructive
3 environments; and
 
4     WHEREAS, The members of the Rotary Club of Illinois Beach
5 Sunrise serve as models of hard work, integrity, and dedication
6 for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9 congratulate the members of the Rotary Club of Illinois Beach
10 Sunrise on the occasion of the organization's 10th anniversary
11 and wish them continued success and happiness in the future;
12 and be it further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the Rotary Club of Illinois Beach Sunrise as a
15 symbol of our esteem and respect.
