| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives are pleased to honor our esteemed colleague, |
4 |
| State Representative George Scully, for his many years of |
5 |
| dedicated service to the people of the 80th District and the |
6 |
| State of Illinois; we also wish to congratulate him on his |
7 |
| appointment to become a judge in the Circuit Court of Cook |
8 |
| County; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, George Scully was first elected to office in |
10 |
| November of 1996; he has served with distinction for more than |
11 |
| 12 years; he has remained mindful of the incredible trust and |
12 |
| responsibility placed in him by his constituents to look out |
13 |
| for their best interests and those of the people of Illinois; |
14 |
| as a man of impeccable integrity, independent thought, and keen |
15 |
| intellect, he has brought honor to his office and to this body; |
16 |
| and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, Representative Scully has been the epitome of a |
18 |
| scholar and a gentlemen; he has always treated everyone equally |
19 |
| and gone out of his way to show particular kindness and |
20 |
| appreciation to his legislative staff; always unfailingly |
21 |
| professional and polite, he has never hesitated to reach across |
22 |
| the aisle to make common cause with colleagues on the other |
23 |
| side of the partisan divide; throughout his legislative career, |

| he has conducted himself according to the wise words first |
2 |
| articulated by President Harry S. Truman, "It is amazing what |
3 |
| you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit"; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, Representative Scully has played a key role in |
5 |
| helping to pass legislation to improve the lives of his fellow |
6 |
| Illinoisans, including measures to increase the minimum wage, |
7 |
| expand health care access to the uninsured, revise the State's |
8 |
| telecommunications laws, modernize the workers' compensation |
9 |
| system, create incentives for economic development, improve |
10 |
| schools, increase public safety, and strengthen ethics and |
11 |
| elections statutes; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, In the 95th General Assembly, Representative |
13 |
| Scully served as the Chairman of the Electric Utility Oversight |
14 |
| Committee; in that capacity, he helped to shepherd to passage |
15 |
| legislation to roll back State-wide electric rate increases, to |
16 |
| provide rebates to consumers, and to implement significant |
17 |
| reforms to the State's laws governing power procurement; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, Representative Scully has helped to make a |
19 |
| difference in the South Suburbs through his volunteer work; his |
20 |
| civic participation includes the Chicago Southland Chamber of |
21 |
| Commerce, the NAACP South Suburban Chapter, the National |
22 |
| Council of Jewish Women, and the League of Women Voters; he has |
23 |
| also been the sponsor of numerous youth sport teams; and
|
|

| WHEREAS, For the last 13 years, George Scully has run a |
2 |
| successful private law practice, primarily representing |
3 |
| financial institutions and small businesses; he is an adjunct |
4 |
| professor at Governor's State University, where he teaches |
5 |
| business law; he previously worked as the Senior Vice President |
6 |
| and General Counsel of both Amalgamated Bank of Chicago and |
7 |
| Cole Taylor Bank; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, George Scully is a proud graduate of Brother Rice |
9 |
| High School in Chicago, Northern Illinois University, and the |
10 |
| John Marshall Law School; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, George Scully and his wife, Barbara, are the proud |
12 |
| parents of three daughters, Elizabeth, Christine and Amanda; |
13 |
| Barbara has also helped George to operate his law practice and |
14 |
| has always been his partner in the fullest sense of that word; |
15 |
| and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, George Scully is an accomplished marathoner, |
17 |
| having traveled as far as Dublin, Ireland to compete and having |
18 |
| also qualified and run in the Boston Marathon; he has served as |
19 |
| the leader of a prestigious and exclusive running club that ran |
20 |
| regularly in Springfield's Washington Park during the early |
21 |
| morning hours; club members affectionately referred to |
22 |
| Representative Scully as "Sarge" and "the Big Toe"; they were |
|

| greatly appreciative of his supreme generosity in sharing |
2 |
| running gloves and other gear to unprepared runners; they were |
3 |
| often mesmerized by his high tech gizmos and running |
4 |
| accessories; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, While the members of the Illinois House are sorry |
6 |
| that Representative Scully is leaving our ranks, that feeling |
7 |
| is greatly tempered by the knowledge that he will continue his |
8 |
| exemplary service to the people of Illinois as a jurist; |
9 |
| therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
11 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
12 |
| wish State Representative George Scully all the best in his |
13 |
| future endeavors and congratulate him on his service to the |
14 |
| people of the State of Illinois; and be it further
|
15 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
16 |
| presented to State Representative George Scully as an |
17 |
| expression of our deep esteem and respect.
