| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the citizens of | ||||||
| 4 | Carol Stream as they celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the | ||||||
| 5 | Village; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Carol Stream was incorporated on January 5, 1959 | ||||||
| 7 | as an Illinois Municipal Corporation; the community was founded | ||||||
| 8 | by Jay Stream and named after his daughter, Carol, who had | ||||||
| 9 | recently survived a serious vehicle accident; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, The Village consists of a business and industrial | ||||||
| 11 | sector with over 1,000 businesses; there are excellent schools, | ||||||
| 12 | a full-service public library, an award-winning park district, | ||||||
| 13 | and a profession fire protection district that serves the over | ||||||
| 14 | 41,500 residents; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, In 1962 the Carol Stream Library opened in the | ||||||
| 16 | former location of the Village Hall; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, In 1969 the Park Board of Carol Stream named | ||||||
| 18 | Armstrong Park, the Aldrin Center, and the Collins Pool after | ||||||
| 19 | the historic Apollo 11 astronauts; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Carol Stream, as a local government has firmly | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | established a proven reputation for championing | ||||||
| 2 | intergovernmental cooperation with township, county, state and | ||||||
| 3 | federal governments as well as area non-governmental | ||||||
| 4 | organizations that have served the area well in addressing | ||||||
| 5 | local and regional challenges; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The Carol Stream community will celebrate its | ||||||
| 7 | notable accomplishments throughout 2009, its Golden Jubilee | ||||||
| 8 | Year and continue its legacy of innovative local government, | ||||||
| 9 | community/volunteer service, responsible decision-making, a | ||||||
| 10 | respect for the rule of law and governing standards and an | ||||||
| 11 | ongoing commitment to intergovernmental cooperation to | ||||||
| 12 | successfully meet the many 21st century challenges it faces now | ||||||
| 13 | and in the future; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 15 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 16 | congratulate the citizens of Carol Stream and wish them the | ||||||
| 17 | best in the future; and be it further
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to the Mayor of Carol Stream, Frank Saverino, Sr., as | ||||||
| 20 | a symbol of our respect.
