2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of
Burton E. Scott of Big Rock, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on December 5, 2008; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Burton Scott was born on September 8, 1925 in | ||||||
6 | Aurora; he was the son of Byron R. and Helen E. (Hoyt) Scott; | ||||||
7 | he was united in marriage to the former Lois Larson on August | ||||||
8 | 19, 1950 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Burton Scott attended the Big Rock Grade School | ||||||
10 | and Big Rock High School in Big Rock; he was a graduate of | ||||||
11 | Northern Illinois University in DeKalb with a Bachelor of | ||||||
12 | Science degree in education; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Burton Scott served his country proudly with the | ||||||
14 | United States Air Force during World War II; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Burton Scott was a partner with his brother Byron | ||||||
16 | in the operation of a general farming and cattle feeding | ||||||
17 | business in the Big Rock area throughout his life; he then | ||||||
18 | became a partner in a farming operation with his son-in-law, | ||||||
19 | Vern, and his grandsons, Scott and Matt; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Burton Scott was a lifetime member of the English |

| |||||||
1 | Congregational United Church of Christ in Big Rock, where he | ||||||
2 | served for 25 years as Chairman of the Board and as a | ||||||
3 | moderator; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Burton Scott was a former Director of the Aurora | ||||||
5 | National Bank, as well as Chairman of the Executive Committee; | ||||||
6 | he served as a past Director of both the First National Bank of | ||||||
7 | Chicago Heights and the Sugar Grove Bank; he also was a former | ||||||
8 | Director of both the Kane County Service Company, now known as | ||||||
9 | Northern F.S., and the Kane County Livestock Feeders | ||||||
10 | Association; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Burton Scott was a past member of the Kane-DuPage | ||||||
12 | Soil Conservation Committee and a member of the National | ||||||
13 | Cattlemen's Association; he was a former Commander of the Big | ||||||
14 | Rock Legion Post #529 and the Chef De Gare of the Kane-Kendall | ||||||
15 | American Legion "40 & 8"; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Burton Scott was a past Master of the Hinckley | ||||||
17 | Masonic Lodge and a member of both the Aurora Shriner's Club | ||||||
18 | and Medinah Temple; he was also a member of the Big Rock Lions | ||||||
19 | Club and served for many years as the caretaker of the South | ||||||
20 | Big Rock Welsh Cemetery in Big Rock; and | ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Burton Scott was preceded in death by his parents, | ||||||
22 | Byron R. and Helen E. Scott; his son, Stephen F. Scott; his |

| |||||||
1 | brother, Byron H. (Roberta) Scott Sr.; and his wife's parents, | ||||||
2 | Fred O. and Esther Larson; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Burton Scott is survived by his wife, Lois Scott; | ||||||
4 | his daughter and son-in-law, Margo Scott Herrmann and Vern | ||||||
5 | Herrmann; his daughter-in-law, Lynn Scott; his grandchildren, | ||||||
6 | Scott (Emily) Herrmann, Matthew Herrmann, and Gordon and Taylor | ||||||
7 | Scott; his great-granddaughter, Anna Herrmann; his sister, | ||||||
8 | Marilyn (Royce) Thompson; and his many nieces and nephews; | ||||||
9 | therefore, be it

10 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL | ||||||
11 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
12 | his family and friends, the passing of Burton E. Scott; and be | ||||||
13 | it further
| ||||||
14 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
15 | presented to the family of Burton Scott as an expression of our | ||||||
16 | sympathy.
