SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of George J. "Po" Stampar of Lockport, who
4 passed away on December 5, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born in Chicago, lived on the East side of
6 Chicago, and later in Lockport for 23 years; he also had a
7 residence in Port Charlotte, Florida; He graduated from the
8 University of Illinois with a B.S. in 1946 and a M.A. in 1947;
9 and
 
10     WHEREAS, He was retired from the Illinois Department of
11 Corrections, Joliet Correctional Center, as Executive
12 Assistant to the Warden; he was formally an Assistant Warden at
13 Stateville Correctional Center; and
 
14     WHEREAS, He was a life member of the Will County Police
15 Chiefs Association and the Illinois Police Association, a
16 member of the Lockport Police Pension Board since 1982, serving
17 as President of its Pension Fund 1986 to 2007, a member of Phi
18 Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and an Honorary Member of the 1947
19 Illini Rose Bowl Team; and
 
20     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary
21 (Popovich); his parents, Michael and Mary (Furlan); six

1 sisters; and a brother; and
 
2     WHEREAS, George Stampar is survived by his children, Tina
3 (Mike) Huber, Michael (Cathy), Joanne (Jeff) Lasky, and
4 Christine (Jack) Book; his six loving grandchildren,
5 Christopher and Nicholas Stampar, Eva and Eli Book, and Emily
6 and Alexander Lasky; as well as several nieces and nephews and
7 in-laws; therefore, be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
9 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
10 his family and friends, the passing of George J. "Po" Stampar;
11 and be it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to the family of George J. "Po" Stampar as a symbol
14 of our sincere sympathy.
