1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of K.E. "Blackie" Jackson of Roodhouse, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on October 20, 2008; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, He was born January 27, 1925, in Roodhouse; he | ||||||
6 | graduated in 1943 from Roodhouse High School, where he was | ||||||
7 | all-conference in football, basketball, and track; and he | ||||||
8 | enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, In 1946 he joined the American Legion and was a | ||||||
10 | member for 62 years; he was a former member of the Rotary Club | ||||||
11 | of Roodhouse and served as Rotary president from July 1961 to | ||||||
12 | July 1962; he was a former member of the Roodhouse Lodge of the | ||||||
13 | Knights of Pythias; he played on men's amateur softball teams | ||||||
14 | for more than 30 years and participated in donkey basketball | ||||||
15 | and donkey field hockey events to raise money for various | ||||||
16 | community and charitable organizations; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, He served on the Board of Education of the | ||||||
18 | Roodhouse Public Schools System and was president of that board | ||||||
19 | when Roodhouse, White Hall, Hillview, and Patterson schools | ||||||
20 | consolidated into the current North Greene School District in | ||||||
21 | 1962; he owned and operated his own plumbing business for 55 | ||||||
22 | years and was a licensed master plumber, licensed plumbing |

1 | contractor, and a licensed refrigeration engineer; in 1974, he | ||||||
2 | was appointed by Governor Daniel Walker to an advisory | ||||||
3 | committee that rewrote the Illinois State Plumbing Code; in | ||||||
4 | 1952, he became a Democratic Party precinct committeeman and | ||||||
5 | member of the Greene County Democratic central committee; in | ||||||
6 | 1955, he was elected central committee chairman and served in | ||||||
7 | that capacity until he retired from the central committee in | ||||||
8 | 1974; and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS,
He was a firefighter with the Roodhouse Volunteer | ||||||
10 | Fire Department for 55 years, serving the last 39 of those | ||||||
11 | years as fire chief; and he was a member of First Baptist | ||||||
12 | Church of Roodhouse; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and | ||||||
14 | Avenel Jackson; his sister, Eileen Smock; and his son, Lloyd | ||||||
15 | Dean Jackson; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, K.E. "Blackie" Jackson is survived by his wife, | ||||||
17 | Betty; his sister, Louise Proffer; his two daughters, Patricia | ||||||
18 | Lendennie and Donna Feltner; his son, Timothy Jackson; his | ||||||
19 | eight grandchildren, United States Army Specialist Michael | ||||||
20 | Wendell, Kyle Wendell, Benjamin Feltner, Matthew Feltner, | ||||||
21 | Brittany Jackson, Jessica Jackson, Chance Stilley, and Kenneth | ||||||
22 | Jackson; and his ten great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL | ||||||
2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
3 | his family and friends, the passing of K.E. "Blackie" Jackson; | ||||||
4 | and be it further
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
6 | presented to the family of K.E. "Blackie" Jackson as a symbol | ||||||
7 | of our sincere sympathy.
