| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of Howard J. Adelmann of Lockport, who |
4 |
| passed away on October 22, 2008; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, When he was an infant, his great-grandmother |
6 |
| noticed a resemblance to silent screen comedian John Bunny, and |
7 |
| the nickname "Bunny" remained for the rest of his life; a |
8 |
| lifelong resident of Lockport, he served in the Army Air Corps |
9 |
| in the Pacific during World War II; he founded the Lockport Oil |
10 |
| Company in 1958 and sold the business in 1977; and he was one |
11 |
| of the founders of the Bank of Lockport (now Harris Bank) and |
12 |
| served as chairman of the board for many years; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, When Lockport officials announced plans to tear |
14 |
| down the decrepit Central School, Howard Adelmann became |
15 |
| chairman of the committee to preserve the building, which now |
16 |
| houses City Hall, the Lockport Township offices, and park |
17 |
| district facility; he was also instrumental in restoring the |
18 |
| Old Congregational Church as the Gladys Fox Museum; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, A longtime trustee of the Lockport Township fire |
20 |
| and park districts for many years, he was credited as a driving |
21 |
| force behind the Prairie Bluff Golf Course and Dellwood West |
22 |
| Park;
