SENATE RESOLUTION


 
2
    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to  
3
learn of the death of
Donald Augustus of Chicago; and

 
4
    WHEREAS, Donald Augustus was born on November 21, 1953 to 
5
the late Lester and Melvina Augustus; he was a star, a star 
6
that never stopped shining; and

 
7
    WHEREAS, Donald Augustus, "A Man's Man", was a loving and 
8
supportive husband to his wife, Karen; a strong father who 
9
possessed solid, old-fashioned values which never wavered; he 
10
never watered down anything but did everything in love; and

 
11
    WHEREAS, Donald Augustus was also known as a loving brother 
12
to his siblings and to his nieces and nephews as a protective 
13
uncle; Don's love for his family remained unshakable; and

 
14
    WHEREAS, Donald Augustus was well known to his church 
15
family at Mars Hill Baptist Church as an armor bearer to his 
16
Pastor and to the residents of Maywood as a police officer with 
17
unquestionable integrity; to countless others, he was a devoted 
18
friend and confidante; and
 
19
    WHEREAS, The students at the PAEC Center knew Donald 
20
Augustus to be a listener and motivator; he demonstrated to the

students and all he encountered what a man of purpose and 
2
passion could be; and

 
3
    WHEREAS, We all knew Donald Augustus as a well-put-together 
4
man, "Dapper Don"; a trailblazer who has left great memories 
5
and a set of standards that defined "A Core of A Man"; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Donald Augustus has left us with an opportunity to 
7
celebrate his having crossed our paths; he will live on in our 
8
hearts and in our minds as a man who possessed the heart  of a 
9
lion and the humility of a man; and

 
10
    WHEREAS, Donald Augustus is survived by his beautiful wife, 
11
Karen; their children, Vernon Augustus, Keith Augustus, Donald 
12
Augustus II, and Jeremy Augustus; their grandchildren, Shonda, 
13
DaKari, Donneria, and Keith, Jr.; his siblings, Cynthia, 
14
Demetrious, David (Linda), Steven (Mary), and Anthony; his many 
15
nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives; his lifelong 
16
friends, Marvin, Percell, Kenny, and Larry; and his extended 
17
family at Mars Hill; and
 
18
    WHEREAS, Donald Augustus will be remembered by all who knew 
19
and loved him for his helpful demeanor, especially Senator 
20
Kimberly A. Lightford, and for his endless love for his beloved 
21
wife and family; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL 
2
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 
3
his family, friends, and community, the passing of Donald 
4
Augustus; and be it further

 
5
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this preamble and 
6
resolution be presented to the family of Donald Augustus as a 
7
symbol of our sympathy.
