| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of Matteson Village President Mark Stricker, |
4 |
| who passed away on August 17, 2008; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Stricker was a resident of the Village of |
6 |
| Matteson for 45 years; he first served Matteson as a trustee |
7 |
| before being elected Village President, where he served for |
8 |
| over 25 years as a loyal and dedicated servant to the residents |
9 |
| of Matteson; he also served as a volunteer with the Matteson |
10 |
| Fire Department; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Stricker had a long and distinguished career |
12 |
| in education; he served as a teacher at Tinley Park High School |
13 |
| for 36 years; he was also a Past President of the Elementary |
14 |
| School District #159 Board; and |
15 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Stricker oversaw expansion of the community, |
16 |
| and worked to draw business back to the Lincoln Mall; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Stricker lobbied the Cook County Board to |
18 |
| develop a four-mile forest preserve path along Flossmoor and |
19 |
| Vollmer Roads; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Stricker created high-end and middle-class |
|
|

| housing in the village, which contributed to the high standard |
2 |
| of living; and
|
3 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Stricker was a member of the South Suburban |
4 |
| Mayors and Managers Association, where he served as |
5 |
| Past-President, Executive Board Member, and Chairperson of the |
6 |
| Transportation Committee; he served as an Advisory Board Member |
7 |
| of the Matteson Area Chamber of Commerce and was a Board Member |
8 |
| of the Chicago Southland Convention and Visitors Bureau; he was |
9 |
| also a member of Greater Chicago Council of Governments and was |
10 |
| one of 17 mayors in the State of Illinois elected to serve on |
11 |
| the Board of the Illinois Tax Increment Finance Committee; and |
12 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Stricker was a member of Crete Lodge #763 and |
13 |
| the Illinois Board of Governors Member of Order of the Eastern |
14 |
| Star; he was also an A.F. & A.M. Past Worthy Grand Patron; and |
15 |
| WHEREAS, Mark Stricker was the beloved and caring husband |
16 |
| of 51 years to Charlotte Stricker, nee Sandvois; the loving |
17 |
| father of Lynne (Daryl) LoSchiavo and Jean (Tod) Jacobson; the |
18 |
| cherished grandfather of James, David, Jaron, and Austin; and |
19 |
| the fond stepbrother of Walter (Virginia) Meisner and Katherine |
20 |
| (late Ted) Meisner; therefore, be it
