SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of James C. "Jim" Lukacek of Naperville,
4 formerly of Worth, who passed away on June 29, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Jim Lukacek was born February 6, 1949 in Evergreen
6 Park; he was a 1967 graduate of Richards High School and a 1971
7 graduate of Chicago State University; he began his career as an
8 elementary school teacher with the Chicago Public Schools; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Jim switched careers to the computer field in 1976
10 and was hired by the federal government where he continued to
11 be employed for 32 years; he worked for the Railroad Retirement
12 Board, the Veterans' Administration Data Processing
13 Center/Supply Depot, and then transferred to the Department of
14 Justice, U.S. Attorney's office as System Manager, serving in
15 that role for 24 years; and
 
16     WHEREAS, In 2006, Jim volunteered to be detailed to the
17 State Department, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Regime Crimes
18 Liaison Office and Iraqi High Tribunal in Baghdad for 10 months
19 where he assisted in the trial of Saddam Hussein; during his
20 employment with the U.S. Attorney's Office, Jim was selected by
21 the Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys to serve among an elite
22 group of eight Regional Systems Managers who as a group were

1 responsible for the development and coordination of IT services
2 to all 94 U.S. Attorney Offices throughout our nation's 50
3 states as well as U.S. territories; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Jim had the honor and distinction of being one of
5 the longest serving Evaluators for the Department of Justice,
6 U.S. Attorneys Office, providing guidance and assistance to
7 every U.S. Attorney District Field and Branch offices
8 nationwide; Jim received numerous awards for his outstanding
9 service at both the local and district levels, the Department
10 of Justice's Executive Office for U.S Attorneys, and the Office
11 of the U.S. Attorney General; and he received numerous letters
12 of commendation from U.S. Attorneys and various agency heads
13 within the Executive and Judicial branches of government; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Jim has a lifelong affiliation with the Boy Scouts
15 of America, first as a member of Troop #3456, Worth, and later
16 serving as Assistant Scoutmaster and Troop Committee Chairman
17 for Naperville Boy Scouts of America Troop #133; Jim also
18 served on the Naperville Sister Cities Commission from 2005 to
19 2007; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Jim Lukacek was the loving husband of Jeannette
21 Swist Lukacek; the beloved father of Jonathan (Shiho) and
22 Lauren Lukacek; the devoted son of the late Joseph and Shirley
23 (nee Pauls) Lukacek; the son-in-law of the late John and Emily

1 Swist (nee Druktenis); the dear brother of JoAnn (Jim) Bunyea
2 and Paul (Liz nee Gedmin) Lukacek; the fond uncle of Jennifer
3 (Seth) Hopkins, Jason Bunyea, Emily and Phillip Lukacek, and
4 the late Jane Lukacek; the dear great-uncle to Astrid Simone
5 Bunyea-Hopkins; the loving nephew and cousin to many; and the
6 adored grandson of the late Angelina (nee Gruz) and Klement
7 Lukacek, and the late Margaret (nee Brehm) and Arthur Pauls;
8 therefore, be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
10 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
11 his family and friends, the passing of James Lukacek; and be it
12 further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the family of James C. "Jim" Lukacek as a symbol
15 of our sincere sympathy.
