SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Roy Modglin Jr. of Mapleton, formerly of
4 Peoria, who passed away on June 8, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Roy Modglin Jr. was born on February 13, 1947 in
6 Peoria; he was the son of Roy T. and JoeAnna Eads Modglin; he
7 married Nina Van Lingen on December 14, 1985 in Peoria; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Roy Modglin Jr. graduated from Manual High School
9 in 1965; he was a member of the Hall of Fame football team of
10 1962; he graduated from Illinois Central College in East Peoria
11 with a degree in Fire Science and then from the National Fire
12 Academy in 1999; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Roy Modglin Jr. served his country with bravery
14 and distinction as a member of the United States Navy during
15 the Vietnam War; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Roy Modglin Jr. joined the Peoria Fire Department
17 in 1970 as a hose man and worked his way up to the position of
18 Fire Chief of the Department in 2001; he retired as Fire Chief
19 in 2007 after 36 years of dedicated service to the community he
20 loved; and

1     WHEREAS, Roy Modglin Jr. was a born firefighter who had
2 what it took to answer the call; he had a big heart, a warm
3 personality, and a willingness to risk his life to save
4 another, the best of the characteristics that a true
5 firefighter needs; his close friend, Butch Gudat, shared those
6 qualities and gave his life in the line of duty; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Roy Modglin Jr. and his wife had three children,
8 Lindsay M. (Jason) Shepler, Jeffery S. (Donna) Modglin, and Roy
9 T. (Kim) Modglin III; he was known as Papa to Jacob Shepler,
10 Benjamin Shepler, Jeff Modglin, Grace Modglin, Gavin Modglin,
11 Brock Modglin, Matthew Modglin, and Natalie Modglin; he was the
12 most loving son of his mother, JoeAnna; he is also survived by
13 his best friend, Wesley "Duke" (Dorothy) Pitcher; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Roy Modglin Jr. will be remembered by all who knew
15 and loved him as a loving, supportive, thoughtful, and truly
16 kind husband and father whose love for his family and his
17 profession were unparalleled; therefore, be it
 
18     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
19 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
20 his family and friends, the passing of Roy Modglin Jr.; and be
21 it further
 
22     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
