2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of
Robert E. Lee of Batavia, who passed away | ||||||
4 | on May 6, 2008; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Robert E. Lee was born on April 9, 1924 in Aurora; | ||||||
6 | his parents were Emmett Lehr Lee, M.D. and Sylvia Chenoweth | ||||||
7 | Lee; he married Geraldine (Matthews) on July 7, 1945; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Robert E. Lee attended Aurora schools and | ||||||
9 | graduated from high school at Culver Military Academy in | ||||||
10 | Culver, Indiana in 1942; he obtained his bachelor's degree at | ||||||
11 | Ohio State University, where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta | ||||||
12 | fraternity, and graduated in 1949; he graduated from the | ||||||
13 | University of Illinois College of Dentistry in 1953; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Robert E. Lee served with pride and distinction as | ||||||
15 | a member of the Army Air Corps during World War II in the 8th | ||||||
16 | Air Force, 452nd Bomb Group based in England; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, After graduating from the University of Illinois | ||||||
18 | College Of Dentistry, Robert E. Lee began his career as a | ||||||
19 | dentist in the same Aurora building where his father had | ||||||
20 | practiced medicine and his father-in-law had practiced | ||||||
21 | dentistry; he practiced in this building part-time until 1996; |

1 | he also served as an associate professor in the department of | ||||||
2 | periodontics at the University of Illinois from 1964 to 1988; | ||||||
3 | and | ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Robert E. Lee was an active member of his | ||||||
5 | community; he was a member of the American Dental Association | ||||||
6 | and its local components; he served as a board member and | ||||||
7 | president of the Fox River Dental Society and the Aurora Dental | ||||||
8 | Society and was a member of the American Academy of | ||||||
9 | Periodontics; he was elected to the Batavia school board in | ||||||
10 | 1966 and served as its president from 1969 to 1972; he was also | ||||||
11 | a member and former board member of the St. Charles Country | ||||||
12 | Club; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Robert E. Lee was a long-time member of the | ||||||
14 | Congregational Church of Batavia; he enjoyed attending the | ||||||
15 | Saturday morning men's Bible study during his retirement years; | ||||||
16 | and | ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Robert E. Lee was preceded in death by his | ||||||
18 | daughter, Nancy Lee Sayers; his brother, Foster; his sister, | ||||||
19 | Sylvia; and his parents; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Robert E. Lee is survived by his wife; his sons, | ||||||
21 | Robert Mark Lee, D.D.S. and William Emmett Lee; his | ||||||
22 | grandchildren, Matthew J. Sayers, Julie A. Sayers, Robert W. |

1 | Lee, and Michael E. Lee; and his daughter-in-law, Wendy Lee; | ||||||
2 | and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Robert E. Lee will be remembered by all who knew | ||||||
4 | and loved him as a man who was always ready with a joke, a lover | ||||||
5 | of big band music, a great dancer, and as a man who loved his | ||||||
6 | family dearly; therefore, be it
| ||||||
7 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL | ||||||
8 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
9 | his family and friends, the passing of Robert E. Lee; and be it | ||||||
10 | further
| ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to the family of Robert E. Lee as an expression of | ||||||
13 | our sympathy.
