| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of
Edward John Kane III, who passed away on |
4 |
| May 29, 2008; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Edward John Kane III was born on September 26, |
6 |
| 1927 in Chicago; he was the son of Edward J. Kane II and |
7 |
| Josephine Helen (Hurm) Kane; he was baptized at St. Vincent |
8 |
| DePaul Church in Chicago; he married Ann Louise (Harty) Kane on |
9 |
| June 24, 1950 at St. Patrick's Church in Seneca; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, Edward John Kane III was a 1945 graduate of |
11 |
| Campion Jesuit High School in Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin and a |
12 |
| 1950 graduate of St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa; he |
13 |
| lettered in sports in both high school and college and was well |
14 |
| known for his track and his Golden Gloves abilities; his |
15 |
| classmates dubbed him "Sugar Kane"; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, Edward John Kane III worked as a "steel man" for |
17 |
| his entire career; his career, which spanned fifty years, |
18 |
| included employment with major companies such as Caterpillar |
19 |
| Tractor, A.M. Castle & Company, Earl M. Jorgensen, Midwest |
20 |
| Metals, and Garbe Iron Works; the latter half of his working |
21 |
| years were spent in a family business venture with his sons Ed, |
22 |
| Tim, and Bill at E.K.S. Steel, which won the prestigious Inc. |

| 500 Award in 1993 and 1994 recognizing America's fastest |

| growing companies; and
|
3 |
| WHEREAS, Edward John Kane III was easily identified as a |
4 |
| fine "Irishman" by both his looks and his humor; his paternal |
5 |
| grandmother, Bridget Pender, immigrated to the United States |
6 |
| from Clondegad, County Clare, Ireland; Mr. Kane made two |
7 |
| unforgettable trips to Ireland with his family in 1996 and |
8 |
| 2004; and |
9 |
| WHEREAS, Edward John Kane III enjoyed basking in the sun |
10 |
| for hours, telling stories about all the great fun he |
11 |
| experienced in his life, his "baby", the swimming pool, and |
12 |
| vacations in Green Lake, Wisconsin with his family; and |
13 |
| WHEREAS, Edward John Kane III was preceded in death by his |
14 |
| parents; his paternal grandparents, Edward and Bridget Pender |
15 |
| Kane; and his maternal grandparents, Thomas and Josephine Hurm; |
16 |
| and |
17 |
| WHEREAS, Edward John Kane III is survived by his wife of |
18 |
| fifty-eight years, Ann Louise; his children, JoAnn, Colleen |
19 |
| (Bill) Howard, Pat (Nick) Moore, Edward IV (Cheryl) Kane, |
20 |
| Maureen Marlatt Braun, Tim (Jill) Kane, and Bill (Kim) Kane; |
21 |
| and his grandchildren, Sarah, Anna, Jennifer, Bridget, |
22 |
| Timothy, Edward V, Sean, Riley, Isaac, Will, Barbara, Devon, |

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |

| his family and friends, the passing of Edward John Kane III; |
5 |
| and be it further
|
6 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 |
| presented to the family of Edward John Kane III as an |
8 |
| expression of our sympathy.
