SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Verda L. Dierzen of Woodstock, who passed
4 away on April 5, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born February 21, 1917, in Woodstock, to
6 Oscar A. and Violet (Ainger) Anderson; she married Lawrence
7 Dierzen on June 6, 1941, in Woodstock; he died August 19, 1996;
8 and
 
9     WHEREAS, She was a graduate of Woodstock High School; she
10 attended Northern Illinois University and graduated with a
11 Bachelor of Science degree in education; she received her
12 master's degree at the University of Chicago in education
13 administration; and
 
14     WHEREAS, She first taught for District 10 in Greenwood as a
15 teacher, principal, and curriculum coordinator; she was an
16 assistant superintendent and superintendent for District 10;
17 at District 200 in Woodstock, she was the assistant
18 superintendent; she retired from the school district in 1972
19 and then served as an educational consultant; District 200
20 recognized her for her career in education by renaming the
21 Early Learning Center the Verda Dierzen Early Learning Center;
22 she was a life member of the Illinois Education Association and

1 the National Education Association; and
 
2     WHEREAS, She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and was
3 involved with both the Illinois and McHenry Country Retired
4 Teachers Association; she enjoyed reading, sewing, and crafts
5 and her faithful companion, Dusty; and
 
6     WHEREAS, In addition to her husband, she was preceded in
7 death by her parents; and
 
8     WHEREAS, She is survived by her son, James (Stefany)
9 Dierzen; her brother, Clayton (Doris) Anderson; her
10 grandchildren, Jennifer (John) Midgette, Robert L. Dierzen,
11 Bhianca Herrera, and Dieby Herrera; her nieces, Suanne (Dale)
12 Habbley and Susan Anderson; her great-nieces and
13 great-nephews, Michael (Jeannine) Anderson, Elizabeth (Scott)
14 Voigt, Amy (Michael) Kueht, and Andrew Habbley; and her
15 great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Savannah, and Samuel Midgette;
16 therefore, be it
 
17     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
18 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
19 her family and friends, the passing of Verda Dierzen; and be it
20 further
 
21     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
