2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of
Ellis Hartseil of Peoria, who passed away | ||||||
4 | on March 27, 2008; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Ellis Hartseil was born on August 7, 1922 in | ||||||
6 | Peoria; he was the son of Everett and Gertrude Happ Hartseil; | ||||||
7 | he married June C. Henderson on June 29, 1946 in Eureka; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Ellis Hartseil served with honor and distinction | ||||||
9 | as a member of the United States Army during World War II; he | ||||||
10 | was inducted into the Army in 1942 and served until his | ||||||
11 | honorable discharge in 1945 at the rank of Staff Sergeant; he | ||||||
12 | served as a member of the 14th Armored Division in the European | ||||||
13 | Theatre; he was the recipient of the Bronze Star in recognition | ||||||
14 | of his service to his country; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Ellis Hartseil was employed as an assessor for | ||||||
16 | Limestone Township for 28 years until his retirement on | ||||||
17 | December 31, 1989; he was also a member and former vice | ||||||
18 | president of the Peoria County Assessors Association and a | ||||||
19 | former member of the Peoria County Board; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Ellis Hartseil was also employed as a plasterer at | ||||||
21 | Hartseil Plastering in Peoria; he was a 50-year member of |

1 | Plasterers Union Local No. 12; and | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Ellis Hartseil was a past president and secretary | ||||||
3 | of the Limestone Democratic Club; he was a member for over 40 | ||||||
4 | years, past president, and secretary of the Pleasant Hill | ||||||
5 | School Board; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Ellis Hartseil was a member of St. Ann's Catholic | ||||||
7 | Church in Peoria and a former member of the Elks Club; and | ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Ellis Hartseil was an avid bowler; he was a member | ||||||
9 | and past president of the Greater Peoria Bowling Association | ||||||
10 | and was inducted into its Bowling Hall of Fame in 1985; he was | ||||||
11 | the secretary of Landmark Sportsman Bowling Leagues since 1947; | ||||||
12 | he was the secretary of the VFW Post No. 8662 Bowling Leagues | ||||||
13 | for 15 years; in 1989, he was the winner of the Class C Senior | ||||||
14 | Singles Tournament; he also bowled in the Calumet League for | ||||||
15 | several years and the ABC/USBC Tournament for 30 years; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Ellis Hartseil enjoyed fishing, hunting, and | ||||||
17 | reading; he was proud to be a colon cancer survivor; and | ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Ellis Hartseil was preceded in death by his wife, | ||||||
19 | June C. Henderson, and his two brothers; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Ellis Hartseil is survived by his daughters, |

1 | Carolyn Anderson and Judy (Robert) Chance; his sons, Steve | ||||||
2 | (Dianne) Hartseil and Charles (Jacqueline) Hartseil; his eight | ||||||
3 | grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and his sisters, | ||||||
4 | Geraldine (Jim) Kelly and Eileen Coughlin; therefore, be it
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL | ||||||
6 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
7 | his family and friends, the passing of Ellis Hartseil; and be | ||||||
8 | it further
| ||||||
9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
10 | presented to the family of Ellis Hartseil as an expression of | ||||||
11 | our sympathy.
