SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Brian L. Abrams Sr. of Chicago, who
4 passed away on March 5, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Brian L. Abrams Sr. was born in Chicago on
6 December 16, 1937; he was the sixth of nine children born to
7 Edna Marie and Milton Abrams; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Brian L. Abrams Sr. confessed his faith and belief
9 in Jesus Christ as his Savior and Redeemer at an early age; in
10 1950, he joined the 44th Street Baptist Church in Chicago,
11 remaining there for several years until he joined Antioch
12 Baptist Church; after several years at Antioch Baptist Church,
13 he returned to New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church (formerly
14 the 44th Street Baptist Church), where he remained until his
15 untimely passing; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Brian L. Abrams Sr. earned his associate's degree
17 at Kennedy King College in Chicago and his bachelor's degree
18 from Governors State University in University Park; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Brian L. Abrams Sr. was an active member of the
20 Freemasons; he was a Past Master of Richard E. Moore Lodge
21 #109, a Past Most Excellent Grand Priest #25, a Past Thrice

1 Illustrious Master #1, a Past Right Eminent Grand Commander #4,
2 a Past Eminent Prior #3, a Past Potentate of Arabic Temple #44,
3 and a Past Lecturer and Historian for MWPHGL; he was a Founding
4 Member of the Phylaxis Society; he was a member of the Chi Rho
5 Fraternity; he was a member of Western Consistory #28 and an
6 active member of the United Supreme Council; he was a Deputy
7 for the Orient of Illinois; he was the recipient of the
8 Meritorious Services Award in recognition of his work in the
9 organization; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Brian L. Abrams Sr. served his country with pride
11 and distinction as a member of the United States Air Force; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Brian L. Abrams Sr. was a member of Alpha Phi
13 Alpha, Inc. and the Chicago Urban League; he was also a Life
14 Member of NAACP; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Brian L. Abrams Sr. was married for 44 years to
16 his high school sweetheart, Mattie W. Mason, until her untimely
17 passing in 2000; together, they had three children, Brian Jr.,
18 D'Wayne Anthony, and Kecia Cassandra Abrams; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Brian L. Abrams Sr. was preceded in death by his
20 wife; his parents; his sons, Brian Jr. and D'Wayne Anthony
21 Abrams; his brother, Roger T. Abrams; and his sister-in-law,
22 Hattie Carter; and

1     WHEREAS, Brian L. Abrams Sr. is survived by his daughter,
2 Kecia C. Abrams; his daughter-in-law, Felicia A. Abrams
3 (D'Wayne); his grandchildren, Stormi B. (Abrams) Haggard,
4 Kelsea C. (Abrams) Haggard, Devonne Abrams, Sincere J. James,
5 Camille A. Abrams, Nigel C. Abrams, and Darius M. James; his
6 great-grandchildren, Ayanna E. King, Deanna R. King, and Darius
7 M. James Jr.; his godfather, Henry C. McAlister; his sisters,
8 Dolores V. Abrams and Alice P. Rollins (Eddie); his brothers,
9 Milton D. Abrams (Elizabeth), Richard L. Abrams (Peggy), John
10 D. Abrams (Carestella), Michael H. Abrams (Barbara), and Mott
11 C. Abrams (Elnora); his brothers-in-law, Charles Gardner,
12 Issac Mason Jr. (Diane), and Frank S. Mason; his
13 sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Hunter, Juanita Mason, and Peggy
14 Hardy; his companion, Gloria Boynton; his special caregivers,
15 Lisa M. Carter and Sunceray Rodgers; and his many nieces,
16 nephews, cousins, friends, and fellow Freemasons and Alpha Phi
17 Alpha members; therefore, be it
 
18     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
19 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
20 his family and friends, the passing of Brian L. Abrams Sr.; and
21 be it further
 
22     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
23 presented to the family of Brian L. Abrams Sr. as an expression
