| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Geraldine W. "Jerry" Boehm of McHenry, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on March 3, 2008; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, She was born July 3, 1922, in Chicago, to Harry J. | ||||||
6 | and Hazel W. (Beaman) Becker; she lived in McHenry for more | ||||||
7 | than 70 years; she graduated from McHenry High School in 1940; | ||||||
8 | in 1943, she enlisted as a W.A.V.E. in the United States Navy | ||||||
9 | and served for three years in Washington D.C.'s Office of Naval | ||||||
10 | Intelligence; in 1945, she married Robert J. Doran and he | ||||||
11 | preceded her in death in 1955; in 1959, she married her second | ||||||
12 | husband, John L. Boehm, who preceded her in death March 22, | ||||||
13 | 2003; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, She served on the original site selection | ||||||
15 | committee for McHenry County College and was secretary of the | ||||||
16 | McHenry Township Republican Women's Club; she also was the | ||||||
17 | secretary of United Cerebral Palsy of Illinois for 14 years and | ||||||
18 | served for many years as president of McHenry's UCP affiliate; | ||||||
19 | she founded the Blackhawk Region of United Cerebral Palsy, | ||||||
20 | which, to this day, serves clients in six northern Illinois | ||||||
21 | counties; Pioneer Center grew out of this organization; and
| ||||||
22 | WHEREAS,
She was the founder of McHenry High School's first |

| |||||||
1 | PTA; she served many years as president of the local | ||||||
2 | Toastmasters and was district governor for two years; she was | ||||||
3 | on the Comprehensive Health Planning Committee mandated by | ||||||
4 | former Governor Richard Ogilvie and was instrumental in the | ||||||
5 | construction of McHenry's first hospital; she also wrote the | ||||||
6 | "History of McHenry Hospital" for the History of McHenry | ||||||
7 | County; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, In 1973, she graduated from McHenry County College | ||||||
9 | and was named in the Who's Who in Junior Colleges in 1972-73; | ||||||
10 | she was a charter member of Women's World War II Veterans and | ||||||
11 | was a member of the McHenry Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary | ||||||
12 | 4600, American Legion Post 491, AMVETS Post 269, Toastmasters | ||||||
13 | International for 30 years, and First United Methodist Church | ||||||
14 | of McHenry, where she sang in the choir for more than 30 years; | ||||||
15 | and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, She performed for the Ann Varese Theatre Company; | ||||||
17 | she was a former employee of McHenry Sand and Gravel Company | ||||||
18 | and Quaker Inc.; she was an avid roller skater; she loved to | ||||||
19 | camp, fish, sing, and golf and had belonged to an exercise | ||||||
20 | group at Shamrock Health Club; she also loved public speaking | ||||||
21 | and fundraising; however, cooking was not her passion; and
| ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her first husband, | ||||||
23 | Robert J. Doran; her second husband, John L. Boehm; an infant |

| |||||||
1 | son, John Scott Boehm; her parents; a sister, Dorothea Moore; | ||||||
2 | and a brother, William Becker; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Geraldine Boehm is survived by her children, James | ||||||
4 | W. (Charlotte) Doran, Robert J. (Karen) Doran, Kathleen Ellen | ||||||
5 | (Grayling) Repke, Terrence P. (Susan) Doran, Kevin M. Doran, | ||||||
6 | and Gary S. Boehm; her seven grandchildren, James Doran, Julie | ||||||
7 | Sherman, Sarah Mudd, Robert Doran III, Michael Repke, David | ||||||
8 | Repke, and Lindsey Doran; and her four great-grandchildren, | ||||||
9 | Regan Sherman, Ryan Sherman, Reese Sherman, and Isabel Doran | ||||||
10 | Mudd; therefore, be it
| ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL | ||||||
12 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
13 | her family and friends, the passing of Geraldine W. "Jerry" | ||||||
14 | Boehm; and be it further
| ||||||
15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
16 | presented to the family of Geraldine W. "Jerry" Boehm as a | ||||||
17 | symbol of our sympathy.
