SENATE RESOLUTION


 
2
    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3
learn of the death of Albert Lee "Bert" Daniels of Bridgman, 
4
Michigan, formerly of Elmhurst, who passed away on January 17, 
5
2008; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Mr. Daniels was born September 15, 1917 in 
7
Chicago, the son of the late Lee and Alice, nee Daly Daniels; 
8
he was an Eagle Scout and attended York High School in Elmhurst 
9
and graduated from St. Joseph High School in St. Joseph, 
10
Michigan; and

 
11
    WHEREAS, Mr. Daniels and the former Evelyn Bousfield were 
12
married on February 22, 1935, a union that lasted 73 years; he 
13
was a  1941 graduate of Michigan State University with a 
14
Bachelor of Science degree in Police Administration and became 
15
the chief of campus police at Michigan State University; he 
16
later successfully completed advanced training through the 
17
Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1942; and

 
18
    WHEREAS, Upon entering the military, Mr. Daniels was a LT 
19
JG in the United States Navy and served during World War II in 
20
the South Pacific on the USS Frazier DD607, earning numerous 
21
awards and citations leading to an honorable discharge in 1946; 
22
he was further honored in 1999 for his military service by the

City of Elmhurst, when he was chosen as the Grand Marshall for 
2
that town's Memorial Day celebration; and

 
3
    WHEREAS, Mr. Daniels received his Juris Doctorate in 1950 
4
from Kent College of Law, working during the day at Continental 
5
Casualty Insurance while attending law school at night; he was 
6
President of legal fraternity Phi Delta Phi at Kent Law School; 
7
he was an Assistant Illinois Attorney General from 1972 to 1985 
8
and had been an Assistant United States Trustee in Bankruptcy 
9
Court; while in private practice, he handled many private 
10
adoptions and helped place hundreds of infants with parents; he 
11
was a member of the American Bar since 1950 and practiced law 
12
in Chicago and Elmhurst until 1991, when he retired to Bridgman 
13
and Naples, Florida; he also found time for fishing, golfing 
14
and tennis; and
 
15
    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice 
16
Rae, nee Daly and Lee E. Daniels, a former DuPage County, 
17
Illinois States Attorney and Illinois State Representative; 
18
and

 
19
    WHEREAS, Bert Daniels was a devoted husband, loving father, 
20
doting grandfather, proud great-grandfather, great-great 
21
grandfather, loyal friend, and respected member of the 
22
community; his survivors include his wife, Evelyn; eight 
23
children, Patricia Lee Daniels (Sean Curtin), John Francis

Representatives Lee Albert (Pamela) Daniels, William Lewis 
3
(Stacy) Daniels, Richard Alan (Anne) Daniels, Robert James 
4
Daniels, David Arthur (Mary) Daniels, and Thomas Ward Daniels; 
5
his 27 grandchildren; his 20 great-grandchildren; and his eight 
6
great-great grandchildren; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL 
8
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 
9
his family and friends, the passing Albert Lee "Bert" Daniels; 
10
and be it further

 
11
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
12
presented to the family of Albert Lee "Bert" Daniels as a 
13
symbol of our sincere sympathy.
