SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Reverend John Franklin Simpson Jr., of
4 Moro, who passed away on January 18, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, John Franklin Simpson Jr. was born on September 2,
6 1924, in Alton, the son of John F. and Helen (Everett) Simpson
7 Sr.; he married the former Viola Baker on September 30, 1945,
8 in Cottage Hills; and
 
9     WHEREAS, He served his country from 1942 to 1945 in the
10 United States Army; he worked in the shipping department at the
11 Olin Corporation for more than 43 years, retiring in June of
12 1983; and
 
13     WHEREAS, He was an ordained minister and the pastor of the
14 Community Church in West Alton, Missouri for nine years; he
15 would fill in for local ministers through the Association of
16 Alton Baptist Ministers; and he loved to study and read about
17 the Lord; and
 
18     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; three
19 brothers, Melvin, Buddy, and Floyd Simpson; and one sister,
20 Pearl Graham; and

1     WHEREAS, Reverend Simpson is survived by his wife, Viola;
2 his children and their spouses, Mike Simpson, Dannie Simpson,
3 James and Cindy Simpson, Rhonda and Ed Tobias, and Karen and
4 the Reverend Terry McKinzie; his nine grandchildren, Shawna,
5 John, Todd, Tom, Katie, and Jamie Simpson and Megan, Ashley,
6 and Zachary McKinzie; his great-grandchild, Ross; his sister
7 and brother-in-law, Thelma and Jerry King; his brother, Marvin
8 Simpson; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
10 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
11 his family and friends, the passing of Reverend John Franklin
12 Simpson Jr.; and be it further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the family of Reverend John Franklin Simpson Jr.
15 as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
