SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Leonard Szczepanek of Waukegan, who
4 passed away on December 20, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Leonard Szczepanek was born on January 1, 1921 in
6 North Chicago; his parents were Stanley and Rose Szczepanek; he
7 married Bette Halford on August 30, 1947; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Leonard Szczepanek graduated from Waukegan
9 Township High School in 1940; after, graduating, he enlisted in
10 the United States Army and was placed with Company G 381 of the
11 96th Infantry Division; during World War II, he was discharged
12 with the rank of Staff Sergeant after being shot in the
13 Philippines, receiving the Purple Heart for his wounds; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Leonard Szczepanek was employed at Great Lakes
15 Naval Base in North Chicago, where he later retired; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Leonard Szczepanek was a member of the Waukegan
17 Merchant Football Team, The Disabled American Veterans, The
18 American Legion Post 0771 of Gurnee, and Immaculate Conception
19 Church in Waukegan; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Leonard Szczepanek enjoyed bowling and watching

1 the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Leonard Szczepanek was preceded in death by his
3 wife; his parents; and his sisters, Rose, Virginia, Georgia,
4 and Blanch; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Leonard Szczepanek is survived by his daughter,
6 Carol (Tom) Schwab; his grandchildren, Michael (fiancee
7 Kathryn) Schwab, Jason (Amy) Schwab, and Shannon (special
8 friend Ken Totten) Schwab; his great-grandchildren, Tyler
9 Schwab, Austin Schwab, Hunter Schwab, Jaxon Schwab, and Addison
10 Schwab; and his sisters, Bernice (Al) Wiggins and Therese (Bob)
11 Deisinger; therefore, be it
 
12     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
13 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
14 his family and friends, the passing of Leonard Szczepanek; and
15 be it further
 
16     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to the family of Leonard Szczepanek as an expression
18 of our sympathy.
