| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of
Leonard Szczepanek of Waukegan, who |
4 |
| passed away on December 20, 2007; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Leonard Szczepanek was born on January 1, 1921 in |
6 |
| North Chicago; his parents were Stanley and Rose Szczepanek; he |
7 |
| married Bette Halford on August 30, 1947; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, Leonard Szczepanek graduated from Waukegan |
9 |
| Township High School in 1940; after, graduating, he enlisted in |
10 |
| the United States Army and was placed with Company G 381 of the |
11 |
| 96th Infantry Division; during World War II, he was discharged |
12 |
| with the rank of Staff Sergeant after being shot in the |
13 |
| Philippines, receiving the Purple Heart for his wounds; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, Leonard Szczepanek was employed at Great Lakes |
15 |
| Naval Base in North Chicago, where he later retired; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, Leonard Szczepanek was a member of the Waukegan |
17 |
| Merchant Football Team, The Disabled American Veterans, The |
18 |
| American Legion Post 0771 of Gurnee, and Immaculate Conception |
19 |
| Church in Waukegan; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, Leonard Szczepanek enjoyed bowling and watching |
