SENATE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, Illinois Route 173 is a major thoroughfare in the 
3
northern portion of the State of Illinois; and

 
4
    WHEREAS, The designation of one of the United States Army's 
5
units is the 173rd Airborne Brigade; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Many of the men and women who have served in the 
7
173rd Airborne Brigade have been the sons and daughters of the 
8
State of Illinois; and

 
9
    WHEREAS, Specialist Jacob M. Lowell of New Lenox was the 
10
first Sky Soldier of the 173rd Airborne Brigade to have been 
11
killed in action in its current deployment; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL 
13
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that Illinois Route 173 be 
14
designated as the 173rd Airborne Brigade Highway in honor of 
15
the brave men and women of the United States Army 173rd 
16
Airborne Brigade; and be it further

 
17
    RESOLVED, That those who have served in the 173rd Airborne 
18
Brigade, at their request or at the request of an immediate 
19
family member if deceased, may have their names designated 
20
along Illinois Route 173; and be it further

    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation 
2
is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with 
3
State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs 
4
giving notice of the name of the 173rd Airborne Brigade Highway 
5
and the names of those who have served in the 173rd Airborne 
6
Brigade; and be it further
 
7
    RESOLVED, That, in recognition of the men and women of the 
8
173rd Airborne Brigade, those available upon the end of the 
9
Brigade's current deployment be invited to the State of 
10
Illinois to attend this designation; and be it further
 
11
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
12
delivered to the Secretary of the Illinois Department of 
13
Transportation.
