| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of
Roosevelt Thomas, who passed away on |
4 |
| November 12, 2007; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Roosevelt Thomas was born on May 23, 1945 in |
6 |
| Lexington, Mississippi; he was the seventh child of Mose and |
7 |
| Bertha Thomas; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, Roosevelt Thomas accepted Christ at an early age |
9 |
| and was baptized at Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Lexington, |
10 |
| Mississippi; he received his education at the Tchula Attendance |
11 |
| Center, where he began his love of sports, particularly |
12 |
| football; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, Roosevelt Thomas served in the United States Army, |
14 |
| serving one tour of duty in Vietnam; he ultimately achieved the |
15 |
| rank of Sergeant E-5 before his discharge; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, Roosevelt Thomas met his future wife, Dorothy, in |
17 |
| 1967; after a wonderful courtship, they married in 1970; soon |
18 |
| after his marriage, he began working for United Parcel Service, |
19 |
| where he worked as a driver for 34 years; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, Roosevelt Thomas was active in many |
|
|
|

| organizations, with his favorite being the Tchula Attendance |

| Center Class Reunion Committee; and |
3 |
| WHEREAS, Roosevelt Thomas was preceded in death by his |
4 |
| parents, Mose and Bertha, and his siblings, Joe Roger, Dorothy |
5 |
| Grace, Eddie Lee, and Geneva Thomas; and |
6 |
| WHEREAS, Roosevelt Thomas is survived by his wife, Dorothy; |
7 |
| his sons, Douglas (Chasitie), Curtis (Angela), and Courtney; |
8 |
| his niece, Dionne (Craig) Dandridge; his grandchildren, |
9 |
| Autumn, Austin, and Shanaya; his siblings, Inez Thomas, Odessa |
10 |
| Hampton, Earline Smith, Louella Simpson, Lorraine Thomas, |
11 |
| Loretta Thomas, Sandra Hill, Brenda Harris, and Tommy Thomas; |
12 |
| and his many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends; |
13 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL |
15 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
16 |
| his family and friends, the passing of Roosevelt Thomas; and be |
17 |
| it further
|

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
19 |
| presented to the family of Roosevelt Thomas as an expression of |
20 |
| our sympathy.
