SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Steven James Lyons, who passed away on
4 November 5, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Steven James Lyons was born on July 11, 1986 in
6 Chicago; he was the first child of Serbrena Friend-Lyons and
7 Robert Lyons; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Steven James Lyons attended St. Sabina Academy
9 from preschool until eighth grade, where he graduated as a
10 principal scholar; he went on to attend Leo High School, where
11 he was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated
12 with honors; he then attended college at Southern Illinois
13 University; he was pursuing an associate's degree in criminal
14 justice and was on the Dean's List at Richard J. Daley College
15 at the time of his passing; he planned to attend Chicago State
16 University the following spring to obtain his bachelor's
17 degree; and
 
18     WHEREAS, While attending college, Steven James Lyons was
19 employed with United Parcel Services, where he was known as an
20 exemplary employee; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Steven James Lyons was an avid sports fan; he

1 played baseball for the Jackie Robinson West League, football
2 and basketball while attending St. Sabina Academy, and baseball
3 while attending Leo High School; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Steven James Lyons is survived by his mother,
5 Serbrena; his brother, Andre Loren Lyons; his grandmother,
6 Betty L. Johnson; his many aunts, uncles, and special cousins;
7 Loretta Glover, Laura H. Byrd, George Mangum, Earline Mangum,
8 James Mangum, Clyde and Maggie Mangum, Raylen Opara, Brenda
9 Reese-Ward, John Reese, Renee (Marshall) Byrd-Sullivan, Nia
10 Sullivan, Dorrianne Sullivan, Eddie (Kim) Byrd, Jackson Byrd,
11 Paris Byrd, Otis (Patria) Wise, April, O.J., and Paris Wise,
12 and Carla Thornton; and his very special friends, Aaron
13 Calhourn, Brian and Brandon White, Cornelius Clark, Jamel
14 Blankenship, Charles Rhodes, Sylvester Harrison, Jamel
15 Franklin, and Elliot Norwood, among many others; therefore, be
16 it
 
17     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
18 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
19 his family and friends, the passing of Steven James Lyons; and
20 be it further
 
21     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22 presented to the family of Steven James Lyons as an expression
23 of our sympathy.
