SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of John D. Downing of Canton, who passed
4 away on November 13, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, John D. Downing was born on September 12, 1946 in
6 Canton; he was the son of John P. and Virginia Ruth (Lightle)
7 Downing; he married Linda Sprecher on November 23, 1979 in
8 Fairview; and
 
9     WHEREAS, John D. Downing was a United States Navy veteran,
10 serving in Vietnam from 1966 to 1969; and
 
11     WHEREAS, John D. Downing was employed with the Caterpillar
12 Tractor Company and was a Union Steward for many years before
13 his retirement in 1999; after his retirement, he worked at
14 Graham Hospital as a security guard and was a road commissioner
15 for Putman Township; and
 
16     WHEREAS, John D. Downing was a past commander and member of
17 the Fairview Legion Post 644 and a Past Master and member of
18 the Fairview Masonic Lodge 350; he served on the Amos Abbadusky
19 Trust and the Fin and Feather Boards; he was active in the
20 Fulton County Democrats and was a long-time precinct
21 committeeman and Vice Chairman; he was also a member of

1 Fairview Methodist Church; and
 
2     WHEREAS, John D. Downing was an avid golfer, bowler, and
3 fisherman; and
 
4     WHEREAS, John D. Downing is survived by his wife, Linda;
5 his daughters, Michelle (Darrell) Blout, Jennifer (Brad)
6 Benson, and Jodi (Art) Belt; his grandchildren, Katie Burgard,
7 Emily Blout, Harry Benson, Jack Benson, and Sophie Belt; his
8 brother, Bill (Kathy) Downing; his aunt and his uncle; and his
9 several cousins; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
11 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
12 his family and friends, the passing of John D. Downing; and be
13 it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to the family of John D. Downing as an expression of
16 our sympathy.
