| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of
Donald L. Orso of Herrin, who passed away |
4 |
| on October 21, 2007; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Donald L. Orso was born on November 24, 1930 in |
6 |
| Herrin; his parents were Bob and Sarah (Sowman) Orso; he |
7 |
| married Dorothy Duncan, who preceded him in death in 1975; he |
8 |
| married Marilyn (Edmonds) Swan on November 20, 1976 in Marion; |
9 |
| and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, Donald L. Orso was a veteran of the Korean War; |
11 |
| and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, Donald L. Orso retired from Consol Coal and was a |
13 |
| member of United Mine Workers of America; he was a former |
14 |
| member of the Illinois State Mining Board and served as a |
15 |
| marketing representative for the Illinois State Treasurer; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, Donald L. Orso became an alderman of the City of |
17 |
| Herrin in 2001, following the retirement of his wife; he |
18 |
| successfully ran in the aldermanic election of 2003; he |
19 |
| resigned as alderman on June 1, 2006; he also served as a |
20 |
| Democratic Precinct Committee member; and
|
|

| WHEREAS, Donald L. Orso was a member of the American Legion |
2 |
| in Freeman Spur and a lifetime member of Herrin Elks; and
|
3 |
| WHEREAS, Donald L. Orso was preceded in death by his |
4 |
| parents, Bob and Sarah, and his first wife, Dorothy; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Donald L. Orso is survived by his loving wife, |
6 |
| Marilyn Orso; his sons, Bruce L. (Elizabeth) Orso and Keith |
7 |
| Orso; his stepdaughter, Ivana Jo Swan; his stepdaughter and |
8 |
| son-in-law, Consi and Ed Kubitz; his grandchildren, Brandi |
9 |
| Hudson, Cody J.W. Hudson, Chad Orso, Curt Orso, Dylan Orso, and |
10 |
| Kyle (Megan) Orso; his brother, William (Shirley) Orso; his |
11 |
| sisters, Shirley Patrick and Reba (Carl) Harrison; his numerous |
12 |
| nieces and nephews; his many close friends; and his buddy, |
13 |
| Rascal the one-eyed cat; and |
14 |
| WHEREAS, Donald L. Orso will be remembered by all who knew |
15 |
| and loved him as a good person and as a dedicated city |
16 |
| official; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL |
18 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
19 |
| his family and friends, the passing of Donald L. Orso; and be |
20 |
| it further
