SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Reverend C.L. Fairchild of Waukegan, who
4 passed away on October 10, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Reverend C.L. Fairchild was born in Cotton Plant,
6 Arkansas in 1936; his family moved to Chicago two years later;
7 during his time in Chicago, he was very active in sports,
8 music, and his church; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Reverend C.L. Fairchild served as senior pastor at
10 the Greater Faith Baptist Church in Waukegan for 27 years; as
11 senior pastor, he developed a fine reputation as a kind and
12 generous man who would give people money out of his pocket to
13 help them afford food and rent; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Reverend C.L. Fairchild was an award winning
15 singer and producer of gospel music; he recorded and produced
16 numerous albums with the Voices of Greater Faith; his album
17 "Let's Go to Church" was nominated for a Stella Award; he also
18 directed and taught music around the country and performed with
19 gospel music legends James Cleveland and Willie Webb; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Reverend C.L. Fairchild was an active member of
21 his community; he was an advocate for changing the name of

1 Utica Street in Waukegan into Martin Luther King Drive in 2000;
2 in 1998, he led the North Shore Pastor's Conference in
3 organizing a unity rally against the Ku Klux Klan in Waukegan;
4 in 2003, he was a candidate for Mayor of Waukegan in the
5 Democratic primary, before his campaign was cut short due to
6 illness; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Reverend C.L. Fairchild is survived by his wife;
8 his 6 children; his 10 grandchildren; and his 8
9 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
11 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
12 his family and friends, the passing of Reverend C.L. Fairchild;
13 and be it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to the family of Reverend C.L. Fairchild as an
16 expression of our sympathy.
