2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of
Dick Glennie of Oak Park, who passed away | ||||||
4 | on September 15, 2007; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dick Glennie grew up on the South Side of Chicago; | ||||||
6 | he attended Calumet High School and graduated from Drake | ||||||
7 | University in Des Moines, Iowa; he married his wife Linda in | ||||||
8 | 1966; they started their family in Hyde Park before moving to | ||||||
9 | Oak Park in 1983; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, In 1967, Dick Glennie founded Gregg Communication | ||||||
11 | Systems, Inc., a telecommunications company that supplied | ||||||
12 | telephone systems to business and specialized in call centers; | ||||||
13 | he served as vice president and general manager of the company | ||||||
14 | from 1967 to 1990 and served as company president from 1990 | ||||||
15 | until his retirement in 2005; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Dick Glennie's prestigious position at Gregg | ||||||
17 | Communication Systems, Inc. enabled him to spend quality time | ||||||
18 | with his children and allowed him to show up to his children's | ||||||
19 | concerts and soccer games; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Dick Glennie was a passionate music lover; he was | ||||||
21 | a member of the Apollo Chorus in Chicago for over 40 years, |

| |||||||
1 | serving for many years on the chorus' board; he was also an | ||||||
2 | active participant in the Chicago Children's Choir; he | ||||||
3 | regularly attended the opera and symphony concerts as well; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Dick Glennie was a passionate supporter of the | ||||||
5 | Great Lakes area; he was a member of the Alliance for the Great | ||||||
6 | Lakes, which protested the dumping practices of the British | ||||||
7 | Petroleum Corporation into the waters of the Great Lakes; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Dick Glennie was an avid traveler, preferring to | ||||||
9 | travel by train; he and his wife also traveled to China, | ||||||
10 | Australia, and Europe, and were regular hosts to foreign | ||||||
11 | exchange students; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Dick Glennie was a longtime member of the First | ||||||
13 | United Church of Oak Park, where he joined the peace vigil | ||||||
14 | group that protested against the war in Iraq on the church's | ||||||
15 | front steps every Friday night and met every Saturday morning; | ||||||
16 | he was also a frequent letter writer in the op-ed section of | ||||||
17 | the Chicago Tribune and Wednesday Journal newspapers; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Dick Glennie was preceded in death by his sisters, | ||||||
19 | Marjorie (Bernard) Rickert, Carol (the late David) Cameron, and | ||||||
20 | Dorothy Glennie; and | ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Dick Glennie is survived by his wife, Linda; his |

1 | children, Michele (Bradford) Wolter, Robert Dick (Amanda | ||||||
2 | Sewell), Matthew, and Gregory (Kirsten Langley) Glennie; his | ||||||
3 | grandchildren, Caroline, Marianne, Gabriel, and Eleanor; and | ||||||
4 | his many nieces and nephews; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dick Glennie will be remembered by all who knew | ||||||
6 | and loved him as a passionate and caring person who loved | ||||||
7 | talking to everyone around him; therefore, be it
| ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL | ||||||
9 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
10 | his family and friends, the passing of Dick Glennie; and be it | ||||||
11 | further
| ||||||
12 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
13 | presented to the family of Dick Glennie as an expression of our | ||||||
14 | sympathy.
