SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Rabbi William Z. Novick, who passed away
4 on August 19, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Rabbi Novick served as the director of the Midwest
6 Region of the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of
7 Science for forty years, working to create a relationship
8 between Chicago and the Institute; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Rabbi Novick served the Lynbrook Jewish
10 Congregation of Long Island early in his career, and together
11 with congregant Herbert Tenzer formed Rescue Children, helping
12 3,000 orphaned survivors of the Holocaust find new lives in
13 Israel; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Rabbi Novick later formed the Committee for the
15 Forgotten Million, assisting impoverished and endangered North
16 African Jews on their journey to Israel; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Prior to joining the Weizmann Institute, Rabbi
18 Novick directed the Chicago office of the Jewish National Fund
19 for fourteen years; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Rabbi William Z. Novick was the devoted husband of

1 Eda Bess Novick (nee Krivitsky); the loving father of David J.
2 Novick, Judith (Albert) Milstein, and Daniel (Rosalie) Novick;
3 the cherished grandfather of Stuart (Sarah) Milstein, Elana
4 (Shami) Minkove, Ari (Ilana) Milstein, Tzvi (Adina) Novick,
5 Rachel, Jennifer, Heather, and Ariella Novick; fond
6 great-grandfather of Joseph, Abby, Joshua, Jonah, Tani, Eitan,
7 Ian, and Leba; and the fond brother of Lillian Levine;
8 therefore, be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
10 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
11 his family and friends and the many people whose lives he
12 changed, the passing of Rabbi William Z. Novick; and be it
13 further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to the family of William Z. Novick as a symbol of our
16 sincere sympathy.
