| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of Gregory Patrick Winbush of Chicago, who |
4 |
| passed away on September 1, 2007; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Gregory Patrick Winbush was born to Captain James |
6 |
| V. Winbush Sr. of the Chicago Fire Department and Sarah Clark |
7 |
| Winbush on August 8, 1950; he was christened at Holy Angels |
8 |
| Catholic Church on September 17, 1950; he was educated at St. |
9 |
| George Elementary and St. Cecilia Catholic Grammar School and |
10 |
| graduated from Holy Name Cathedral High School in 1968; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, During his time at Holy Name Cathedral High |
12 |
| School, he made a name for himself in basketball, averaging |
13 |
| over 40 points per game and holding many records and earning |
14 |
| many awards; he attended the University of Illinois at Chicago |
15 |
| on a basketball scholarship and continued his love for sports |
16 |
| by working for the Chicago Park District as a lifeguard and as |
17 |
| a referee for basketball & football with the Illinois High |
18 |
| School Association; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, Gregory Winbush developed and organized a |
20 |
| non-for-profit organization, "Project New Start", for youth to |
21 |
| avoid criminal activity; he was the co-chairman of the United |
22 |
| Negro College Fund for the City of Chicago Employee's |
|
|

| fundraising campaign and assisted with neighborhood garden |
2 |
| projects, Meals on Wheels, and with the Illinois High School |
3 |
| Officials Association; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, He served as the Project Administrator for the |
5 |
| Department of Transportation; he also worked in the Department |
6 |
| of Water and in the Department of Consumer Services; and |
7 |
| WHEREAS, Gregory Winbush was preceded in passing by his |
8 |
| parents, James & Sarah; his only sister, Victoria; and his |
9 |
| brothers, Thaddeus and Cordello; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, Gregory Patrick Winbush leaves to cherish his |
11 |
| memory his daughters, Sinceria (Edwardo), Patrice (Chaun), and |
12 |
| Stephanie; his grandchildren, Jasmine, Jade, Shauntrice, Ryan, |
13 |
| and Tahji; his former wives, Francine Winbush and Janice |
14 |
| Winbush; his brothers, James Jr., Stephen, Gerald, Stanley, |
15 |
| Craig, and Johnathan; his nieces & nephews, India, Sherese, |
16 |
| Kim, Sharron, Sherryl, Risha, Dalan, Diamond, Drake, and Craig |
17 |
| Jr.; and his many other family members and friends; therefore, |
18 |
| be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
21 |
| his family and friends, the passing of Gregory Patrick Winbush; |
